Solu Program Associate

Solu, a Jewish Chicago-area grassroots service organization, is seeking a Program Associate. This new role focuses on the nuts and bolts of Solu’s bridge-building work within Chicagoland,  and will be key to the growth and success of Solu in the coming year. 

 

About Solu

Solu means “make a path!” (Isaiah 57:14); we blaze new pathways from the Orthodox Jewish community to diverse communities across Chicagoland, primarily through chesed (service) initiatives. Grounded in Torah values, we create volunteer opportunities for Orthodox Jews interested in improving the lives of their neighbors. 

Our projects include building a Literacy Center on the South Side of Chicago, tutoring Rohingya refugee children, releasing $2 million of medical debt, supplying baby clothes to migrant babies, distributing cholent to the homeless on cold winter streets, and more. 

Through these hands-on experiences, Solu aims to build bridges across a diverse Chicago, teach our values to the next generation, and change the world.  

 

The Position

As a Program Associate, your key responsibilities will be to support Solu’s operations through logistical and administrative projects. This newly created position will help our growing organization to innovate and expand its impact. You will work closely with your supervisor, Solu’s Program Director Rabbi Hody Nemes, with the opportunity for guidance from Solu founder Rabbi Ari Hart.

This is a full time position that will average 5  days per week. Hours are flexible and may be partially remote, but will include required weekly in-person meetings with the Program Director. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Event planning support for our marquee service events – Light the Night in December and Three Weeks of Ahavat Chinam in July/August
  • Supporting our other service projects throughout the year through logistical support and thought partnership
  • Help tell Solu’s story: take photos, draft social media posts, etc.
  • Managing and communicating with volunteers for service projects as needed
  • Administrative tasks as needed, such as scheduling, calendar management, systems management, sorting items during donation drives, etc. 
  • [Potential for stewarding some volunteer events yourself, if mutually agreed upon]

 

Qualifications:

  • You are passionate about creating social good and building bridges
  • 2 to 5 years of administrative experience implementing and supporting high-impact programs 
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to take the initiative and work independently without day-to-day direct instruction; can manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Ability to staff weekend programs or outside of regular business hours
  • Bonus experience: familiarity with the Orthodox Jewish community and its practices

Compensation: 

Total compensation and benefits package: $40,000 - $60,000, commensurate with experience.
