Responsibilities:

Leadership & Executive Management

  • Report to and collaborate closely with the Board of Directors, including regular meetings with the President and Board of Directors, and interface with the Executive Committee.
  • Supervise the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and Chief Development Officer (CDO). Other department heads will have access to the CEO as needed.
  • Act as the ambassador, communicating the mission, vision, and values effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Inspire, motivate, and empower staff to maximize productivity and professional excellence while promoting teamwork and growth.
  • Ensure systems and processes, including human resources, data platforms, and technology, are aligned with organizational goals.
  • Work with the Board of Directors to plan and execute change initiatives while respecting the agency’s culture and history.
  • Stay current on trends in health and human services as well as in the Jewish community to guide strategic decisions.
  • Work with the Board of Directors and leadership team to implement and drive the new strategic plan.
  • Lead innovation by refining existing processes and creating new ones that support infrastructure and organizational growth.
  • Manage hiring and staffing processes to ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives.

Institutional Advancement

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson, representing JFCSNNJ in both the Jewish and broader Northern New Jersey communities.
  • Build and expand relationships with key community partners, government entities, and both Jewish and non-Jewish organizations.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with stakeholders and major donors and personally execute face-to-face solicitations.
  • Identify and connect with new and potential donors while motivating lay leaders and professionals to further the agency’s fundraising efforts.
  • Collaborate on fundraising strategies to diversify revenue, including major gifts, foundation contributions, corporate donors, and government grants.
  • Serve as CEO of the JFCSNNJ Endowment Fund.
  • Play an instrumental role in diversifying funding sources and actualizing the agency’s strategic plan.

Financial Oversight

  • Work closely with lay leadership and the CFO to ensure fiscal oversight, responsibility, and accountability.
  • Monitor financial status, ensuring sound financial controls are in place while working to control costs and increase revenue.
  • Apply business acumen and analytical skills to ensure financial stability, forecasting, and effective budgeting.
  • Collaborate with leadership to manage and grow the JFCSNNJ Endowment Fund.

Board Governance and Development

  • Oversee and maintain the committee structure, ensuring its effectiveness and alignment with organizational needs.
  • Identify prospective new committee members, board members, and agency volunteers to ensure a pipeline of future leadership.
  • Inspire and engage board members, motivating them to advance the agency’s mission and meet strategic objectives.
  • Guide and oversee the administration of committee and board functions to ensure alignment with organizational goals.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience in an executive leadership role, preferably within the nonprofit, social services, or human services sectors.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in a related field.
  • LCSW certification is a plus, with the ability to contribute to clinical decision-making and an understanding of service delivery.
  • Proven track record in growing a nonprofit organization, securing new funding sources, and diversifying revenue streams.
  • Significant experience in leading and managing teams, with a strong ability to inspire, motivate, and empower staff to achieve organizational goals.
  • Extensive background in community engagement, relationship building, and donor relations, with the ability to expand and strengthen partnerships.
  • Strong expertise in financial oversight, budget management, and operations, ensuring fiscal responsibility and long-term sustainability.
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, with the ability to develop and implement long-term goals and objectives that align with the organization’s mission and vision.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to inspire.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with board, staff, and community partners, fostering a culture of teamwork and shared responsibility.
  • High emotional intelligence, with a focus on the mental health and well-being of the team, creating a supportive and empathetic work environment where all employees feel valued and respected.

  • Competitive Salary Range of $230,000-$265,000 - depending on experience
