Position Summary

We’re seeking an experienced web UX/UI specialist who can create powerful user experiences, drawing on both an innate design sensibility and a clear understanding of how to use data to inform design decisions. In this role, you’ll use your knowledge of web technologies and UX/UI best practices to evolve and enhance UJA’s web properties and other digital initiatives with a focus on optimizing user experience to meet company growth goals, while maintaining quality and performance standards and ensuring consistency with brand guidelines. You’ll also oversee and lead a team responsible for day-to-day web production.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in planning, optimizing, and directing web design and functionality, the ability to discern the underlying business needs behind web development requests and address them with creative solutions, and experience leading a team as well as managing external consultants. Strong leadership skills, a proactive consultative style, and the ability to keep a level head in a very fast-paced environment are critical to success in this role.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Direct UX/UI optimizations on our website to enable our web users to easily find information and take key actions.
  • Regularly communicate with marketing and growth leadership to discuss direction, strategy, and priority of UX/UI optimizations.
  • Collaborate closely with the Content/Brand team and other stakeholders on web design and content strategy.
  • Proactively and responsively identify and develop new page types, elements, and features to meet business needs.
  • Refine and enforce standards and processes that are in line with UX/UI design best practices and UJA business goals.
  • Recommend and manage testing to evaluate effectiveness of UX improvements.
  • Understand and monitor key website performance metrics and proactively use this data to inform and prioritize design and content decisions.
  • Ensure that the website is optimized for conversion goals (donations, registrations, and subscriptions).
  • Identify the underlying business needs behind new development requests and determine when needs can be addressed with existing solutions.
  • Gather, develop, and document business requirements for development requests and manage their scoping and implementation.
  • Facilitate resolution of internal customer requests that require escalation.
  • Ensure that web page destinations and tracking are in place to measure organic and paid marketing efforts.
  • Manage external web design and development consultants to ensure technical quality, proper prioritization of projects, and efficient use of resources.
  • Direct, develop, motivate, and evaluate a team of direct reports who execute web page production and QA, ensuring day-to-day tasks are completed accurately, efficiently, and in line with established practices and goals.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and external vendors around the selection, customization, and implementation of systems and processes impacting web production.
  • Oversee and maintain mastery of the systems and technologies supporting our web properties, including but not limited to the custom CMS for our primary website, WordPress, Classy, WooCommerce, Google Analytics, and FR101/Gift Processing.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new technology that is beneficial to the digital goals of the organization.

Job Skills & Qualifications:

  • B.A. or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years managing a web production team and external consultants
  • An exquisite sensibility for design and typography
  • Expert understanding of information hierarchy and how to best display content on a page for maximum user engagement
  • Strong technical, organizational, and communications skills, and a passion for user-centered technology
  • Fluent in at least one industry-standard CMS, and with HTML, CSS, and at least one scripting language
  • Self-starter with ability to work independently as well as to collaborate with people across all areas of the organization
  • Strong project management skills, with ability to manage projects from conception to completion, meet tight deadlines, and coordinate multiple priorities simultaneously with a fast, flexible, and cooperative style
  • Desire to work for mission-driven company; Jewish philanthropy experience a plus
