Description

Temple Kol Emeth (TKE), a Reform congregation in Marietta, GA, is seeking an energetic, warm, and creative professional to serve as our full-time Youth and Family Engagement Coordinator. This position has the opportunity to work in partnership with URJ Camp Coleman beginning in the summer of 2025.

Temple Kol Emeth is a welcoming Jewish community in suburban Atlanta affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism. Our 330+ family congregation strives to engage and inspire adults and children alike. To learn more about our community, please visit our website.

The Youth and Family Engagement Coordinator plays a vital role in the life of our congregation. We are looking to revitalize teen and youth engagement at TKE. We want to rebuild it from the ground up. Where many youth directors serve as program directors, our ideal candidate will build one-on-one relationships with our youth, listen to their wants and needs, then help them build lasting connections and relationships with one another and to Judaism.

For a generation, KEFTY (Kol Emeth Federation of Temple Youth) has been the name of our High School youth group. Responding to recent trends in teen engagement on a local, regional, and national level, we seek to shift to a culture in which KEFTY is the all- encompassing brand for how our children engage Jewishly and build their own community at Kol Emeth.

A successful candidate will be a thoughtful, energetic individual with great organizational and listening skills who can envision creative approaches to engage our youth of all ages and their parents. They will be flexible and able to work collaboratively with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.

This position reports directly to our Rabbi Educator and will be mentored and supported by our staff eager to ensure our new hire’s success and ability to thrive.

Duties and Responsibilities

Teen Engagement

  • Connect one-on-one with all 65+ of our community’s 8th-12th graders, learning about their needs and desires for personal and communal growth in a Jewish environment.
  • Gather information about our teens’ lives, commitments, and achievements; organize and share that information with TKE clergy and staff so that we can show up for our teens both within and outside the synagogue.
  • Partner with our teens’ parents to create a holistic culture of caring and support for our teens’ social-emotional and spiritual well-being.
  • Support the creation of one-off and recurring programming that responds to the needs of our teen community while empowering the teens to create what they want through mentorship and skills-building.
  • Provide leadership training to KEFTY’s teen leadership board and facilitate their success in building a connected and engaged youth ecosystem.
  • Create and support teen internships that engage them in varying facets of congregational life, providing them adult mentors in our community.
    • E.g. - Teen Leadership Interns that assist in the planning and engagement for our youth engagement opportunities; Teen Social Media Interns that support Kol Emeth’s larger marketing and communication goals.
  • Affirm and celebrate all the ways our teens engage Jewishly outside of our community (NFTY, BBYO, camp, etc.) as much as we do inside of our walls (madrikhimot, musicians, etc.)

Youth Engagement

  • Partner with youth and parents to create 3-4 social opportunities per year for our 3 younger youth groups that span grades PK-8, to build meaningful friendships starting at a young age
    • Our youth groups are PK-2 (Family Programming), Grades 3-5, and Grades 6-8.
  • Engage parents to support, offer feedback, and chaperone these programs.
  • Chaperone and assist in the implementation of all events.

Family Programs

  • Partner with TKE staff and clergy to build and continue fun and engaging social and spiritual opportunities for school-age families, such as:
    • Family Shabbat – a Shabbat experience tailored for elementary school families at a time that best serves their needs
    • Kiddish Klub – events designed for preschool families to engage Jewishly and bond as a community
    • Holiday themed activities

Communications

  • Work with staff to create communication related to our youth program by providing content for weekly emails and monthly e-blasts.
  • Oversee communication efforts to youth and teen program.
  • Respond in a timely manner to emails, phone calls, and texts from parents and staff.

Other Responsibilities

  • Attend regular staff meetings weekly, as well as various committee meetings when requested.
  • Attend Consecration, Family Shabbats, and other congregational events.
  • Support and staff all congregational High Holy Day programming.
  • Perform other job-related responsibilities as requested or necessary, as determined in conjunction with supervisor.
