Description

Kulanu is the "religious school" of the Orangetown Jewish Center (OJC, Conservative) in Orangeburg, Rockland County, NY, just over the NJ/NY border, off the Palisade Parkway.  We are an experiential, project-oriented program with a highly-involved rabbi and parent body.  The students are enthusiastic and engaged -- a mehaya!  We are looking for a K teacher and a combined 1 - 2nd grade teacher, once a week on Tuesdays from 4:15 - 6:15 pm, and a 6th grade & 7th grade teacher once a week on Thursdays from 4:15 - 6:15 pm.  (The 6th & 7th grades are taught separately, but the two teachers will "flip-flop" and teach both grades.)  Classes are small and there will be a high school aide in each class.  There are no classes on Sundays.

Teachers should be creative, nurturing, have a strong background in Jewish Studies and Tefillah, and experience teaching the primary or middle school grades.

Experience differentiating/teaching to a range of levels is a big plus, especially for the 1st - 2nd grade teacher.  On Tuesdays, the 1st - 2nd grade class will learn Jewish Studies together and then do Hebrew reading in two leveled groups.

The Kulanu Director provides guidance and support in all areas and the Assistant Director is responsible for logistics.  There is a curriculum and, for grades K - 2, Hebrew reading textbooks and materials.  (Grade 3 and up have 1:1 Hebrew teachers outside of Kulanu.)  Lesson plans are created by the teachers with the support of the Director.  There is communal davening at the beginning or end of class, music class every day, and a break for snack, which is provided.  Devoted HS aides help in class.  The faculty is warm and collegial.  Faculty input is valued in planning special programs and faculty feedback is important to us in improving the program.

Salary is commensurate and includes a faculty orientation meeting, a monthly staff meeting from 6:15 - 7 pm, a brief email to parents after each class, and two newsletters and progress reports a year.

Please send your resume with a cover letter in your email.  I look forward to speaking with you!
