The Assistant Director to the AJC Dallas Regional Office plays an integral role towards ensuring AJC Dallas meets its ambitious advocacy, leadership development and fundraising goals.  They will operate in the primary focus areas of young leadership and interfaith/intergroup relations.

The successful candidate will be an organized team-player who is self-motivated and capable of seeing the big picture while staying attuned to small details. They should have familiarity with Jewish culture, history and issues of concern to world Jewry. Specific knowledge of the Dallas Jewish and general communities is a plus.

The Assistant Director will do all this while adhering to AJC’s core values: Respect, Teamwork, Integrity, Excellence, and Accountability.

Position Responsibilities: 

ACCESS (AJC’s Young Leadership Division)

  • Identify and engage phenomenal young Jewish professionals in ACCESS  and transform them into AJC advocates, lay leaders, and supporters of the AJC mission. 
  • Help to create, implement, and manage a regional ACCESS Steering Committee to facilitate the cohort’s advocacy, program development, and financial contributions to AJC. 
  • Create, plan, and execute innovative ACCESS programs, meetings, and events in close coordination with regional and ACCESS Global staff.
  • Recruit ACCESS supporters to attend AJC Global Forum. 
  • Develop and expand joint advocacy and diplomatic opportunities with community partners from other religious, racial, and ethnic backgrounds. 
  • Support ACCESS engagement with elected officials and diplomats through advocacy meetings and programming. 
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward ACCESS donors, working closely with the Director of Strategic Advancement to solicit new and existing ACCESS gifts. 

 Leaders for Tomorrow (LFT) 

  • Spearhead recruitment of AJC’s Leaders for Tomorrow (LFT) program for high school students. 
  • Support and facilitate seven LFT sessions annually focused on issues related to Jewish life including advocacy, antisemitism, Israel, and Jewish identity. 

 Campus Affairs 

  • Establish and maintain close ties with local colleges and universities—including Hillel staff, school administrators, and students—in support of AJC’s Campus Affairs work.
  • Build relationships with student activists and empower their responses to situations that may arise. 
  • Speak to campus groups about Jewish advocacy issues sometimes in collaboration with the national education team.
  • Recruit campus leaders to attend AJC’s Global Forum. 

Interfaith/Intergroup Relations

  • Develop and expand joint advocacy initiatives with coalition partners from diverse backgrounds, which may include Latinos, Evangelicals, African American, AAPI, LGBTQ+
  • Represent the Jewish community in contexts that pull together diverse aspects of community stakeholders
  • With guidance from the Development Director, plan and implement annual program leveraging an endowed fund to enhance AJC coalition-building efforts

The Assistant Director may be asked to perform additional tasks as directed by the Director of AJC Dallas.

Qualifications:

  • A person who enjoys empowering others and cultivating their leadership skills.
  •  Respect for and interest in working with diverse faith and ethnic communities.
  • Comfortable soliciting people for financial support of AJC’s mission, but while previous fundraising experience is preferred, it is not required. 
  • Aligned with AJC’s mission and non-partisan diplomatic style, with knowledge and passion for the organization’s key issues (including Israel, world Jewry, international relations, foreign policy).
  • A self-starter who collaborates seamlessly with colleagues both inside and outside AJC.
  • Enthusiastic about learning new skills and new areas of knowledge.
  • An attuned communicator with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to identify and pursue new opportunities.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
  • Adept at time management with the ability to manage several projects at one time.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends and to travel occasionally. 
  • A team player with a sense of humor.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Teams, Excel as well as commonly used social media platforms
  • Holder of a bachelor’s degree and 4 plus years of relevant professional experience.

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $73,000, depending on relevant experience.
