DESCRIPTION OF PARK AVENUE SYNAGOGUE:
Park Avenue Synagogue (PAS) is one of the largest Conservative congregations in North America. Located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the synagogue includes staff of more than 180 talented individuals who together with our world-class clergy, serve a membership of over 1800 households. Our thriving Adult Programming, Penn Family Early Childhood Center, Congregational School, Youth, and Young Family Education departments provide high-quality and inclusive Jewish educational, social, and worship opportunities to our members and the community at large.
DESCRIPTION OF JOB:
Reporting to the senior rabbi, the senior executive administrator will play an integral role in executing the vision of the senior rabbi and supporting his leadership in the PAS community and external Jewish and secular communities that is centered around three core pillars: Learning, Community and Prayer. As an advisor and key confidant, the senior executive administrator will work collaboratively to manage the senior rabbi’s schedule, streamline communication and processes, and plan and implement events and initiatives working with the senior rabbi, synagogue leadership and members, staff and people outside of the PAS community. The senior executive administrator must possess excellent diplomatic, written, and verbal communication skills, along with strong problem-solving abilities and sound judgment, to support and enhance the senior rabbi's daily work and, by extension, the synagogue and his broad external presence.
This individual will provide high-level executive support to the senior rabbi. They will play a critical part in enhancing the productivity of the clergy department by streamlining strategic initiatives, overseeing program management, and communicating objectives across functional departments. Furthermore, they will handle a wide range of personal matters for the senior rabbi and his family such as travel management and event planning and coordination. The senior executive administrator is highly visible in the synagogue and external religious and secular communities and must maintain an executive presence and exhibit an unwavering commitment to confidentiality, sound judgment, and good decision making.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide high-level executive support, including extensive calendar and travel management and meetings and events preparation ensuring optimal time utilization and alignment with priorities.
- Serve as a liaison and information resource between the senior rabbi and internal/external stakeholders, ensuring clear and effective communication and event execution i.e. staff, board of trustees, members and the greater synagogue community and others.
- Prepare reports, presentations, materials, and briefings for meetings, classes/programs, and other engagements.
- Act as a strategic partner to the senior rabbi, sitting in on calls, tracking follow-ups, and managing day-to-day priorities.
- Act as a facilitator for programs, strategies, and key-initiatives discussions.
- Ensure the execution of projects by coordinating across functional units and external partners.
- Manage the senior rabbi’s budget, expenses and reporting.
- Partner with key internal and external stakeholders on the planning and execution of the synagogue’s High Holiday services and other PAS and external special events.
- Attend clergy meetings and act as a proxy for the senior rabbi as needed and create agendas and track and follow up on assigned tasks.
- Oversee the coordination of the clergy executive assistants pertaining to life-cycle events, classes, and other synagogue programming.
- In collaboration with the marketing and communications team, review, approve, and provide content for the senior rabbi’s personal social media accounts, ensuring alignment with the synagogue’s brand and representing the senior rabbi’s voice appropriately.
- Handle matters for the senior rabbi and family, including coordination of events, meetings, and travel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Strong executive function supporting C-Level for eight or more years.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively interact with staff, synagogue members, and external partners of different personalities.
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
- Ability to prioritize effectively, drive execution, and deliver results independently.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Expert in technology and database management. Strong experience with Salesforce, Microsoft Office, and Zoom is preferred.
- Working knowledge of social media platforms.
- Knowledge of synagogue life and Jewish practice is preferred.
- Creative, flexible, and innovative team player.
- Must be able to work outside of the standard hours, including late evenings, weekends, and holidays. May include some travel.
COMPENSATION/BENEFITS:
Starting salary for this role is $120,000. Salary is negotiable based on a number of factors including but not limited to depth of experience, education, knowledge, training and skills.
