Herzl-Ner Tamid is a 600-family Conservative synagogue located on Mercer Island (on the waterfront), a serene spot between Seattle and Bellevue. We are a vibrant community with members from diverse Jewish backgrounds—Ashkenazi, Sephardic, Israeli, and others, particularly drawn in by the local tech boom. The synagogue is committed to both Jewish tradition and social justice. Herzl-Ner Tamid was founded over 100 years ago and moved to its current location in 1970.
We are seeking a new senior rabbi to lead our congregation through a period of renewal, growth, and increased community engagement. Following the retirement of our beloved long-term rabbi and a transition that highlighted our community’s need for warmth, inclusivity, and visionary leadership, we are eager for a rabbi who can bring new energy and compassion. We desire a leader who will inspire and uplift our members across generations while honoring our commitment to Conservative Jewish values, social justice, and connection to Israel.
To bring a spirit of joy and connection to Herzl-Ner Tamid, we seek a rabbi with visionary leadership and strategic planning skills, essential to building a vibrant, engaging community that feels like home to all members. Our new rabbi will help shape the future of the synagogue, guiding us through a period of transformation and expansion, especially as we embark on a collaborative community campus initiative. While the Barnabie Point Project collaboration with the Jewish Day School of Metropolitan Seattle is already underway, we seek a rabbi who can make full use of this new space, transforming HNT into a welcoming center for meaningful programs, adult education, outreach, and alternative services. Our rabbi will guide the congregation from its current state to a dynamic, thriving space where members and newcomers alike can find purpose, spirituality, and community. This requires someone who can partner with lay leaders and inspire congregants to actively shape this vision.
This search reflects our commitment to cultivating a vibrant, joyful synagogue that attracts and retains members, supports lifecycle events with compassion, and builds lasting relationships within our community, and with the broader Jewish communities and organizations in Greater Seattle.
