Congregation Kneseth Israel (CKI) is located in beautiful colonial Annapolis, the capital of Maryland.  CKI was founded in 1906 as an Orthodox synagogue, the first Synagogue in the Annapolis area.  Today, we are an independent, egalitarian congregation, with a committed membership. Women are equal and active participants in religious services. 

We seek to hire a dynamic Rabbi to lead us in meaningful services and assist in growing our membership.  Our members are dedicated to welcoming new families and singles to our beautiful sanctuary.  We desire a leader who will provide inspiring religious services, classes, lectures, and programs. CKI is known for its outstanding choir and talented music director.  With vibrant Rabbinic leadership, our congregation will sustain its legacy as the beacon for the Annapolis Jewish community. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide religious and spiritual leadership
  • Instill Jewish knowledge, understanding, beliefs, practices and support for Israel
  • Create meaningful interactions with congregants and greater community
  • Foster Jewish presence in the Annapolis and surrounding area

Principal Duties

  • Lead Shabbat, Holiday, and all services as needed
  • Lein Torah
  • Create a welcoming and accepting prayer environment
  • Deliver meaningful sermons designed to educate, inform, challenge, and inspire
  • Coordinate and officiate Jewish lifecycle events
  • Work with the religious committee to guide us with ritual practices, services, and holiday programs
  • Host educational programs with broad appeal 
  • Visit the sick, elderly, and shut-ins
  • Maintain an active presence on CKI social media and website
  • Be available in person, via telephone, email, and text for consultation with congregants

 

Qualifications

Education:  Ordination (Semicha), Learned Jewish History, literature, and culture

Jewish Observance:  Committed to a Jewish spiritual path while being sensitive to all levels of observance
