Description

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated General Studies Teacher to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in current educational principles and a genuine enthusiasm for working with children. As a General Studies Teacher, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the academic and personal development of our students.

 

About the School 

Established in 1948 in Mamaroneck, NY, Westchester Day School, a Modern Orthodox, co-educational, dual curriculum Jewish elementary school (2-year-olds through 8th grade), prepares students to live as mensches and lifelong learners and inspires them to impact the world around them by cultivating a commitment to Torah, midot, community and academic rigor. 

 

Responsibilities include:

 

    • Teach Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, and Science
    • Develop and implement unit plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the diverse learning needs of each student
    • Use a variety of instructional strategies 
    • Develop and maintain positive relationships with children and parents.
    • Effectively utilize technology to enhance student learning
    • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a positive learning atmosphere in the classroom.
    • Challenge students to become active independent learners and encourage each child's curiosity and creativity. 
    • Foster respect for others, a commitment to values, and Tikkun Olam (repairing the world)
    • Evaluate students' academic and social growth through both formative and summative assessments, maintain records, and modify instruction to promote student growth and learning
    • Identify student needs, make appropriate referrals, and develop strategies to implement Individual Education Plans
    • Communicate regularly with parents through newsletters, conferences, email, and phone calls to discuss students' progress, sharing successes and working in partnership to enhance student development. 
    • Provide appropriate supervision for all children at all times.
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues

 

  • Stay current with best practices and trends in education. Participate in professional development opportunities and seek continuous growth and improvement.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Experience in working with elementary-aged students
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Passion for teaching and a commitment to student success
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Knowledgeable about current evidence-based teaching practices and assessment methods 
  • Responsive Classroom training preferred
  • Flexibility, creativity, and a growth mindset
  • Knowledge of Jewish practice preferred

Salary range for this role is $65,000-$75,000, depending upon education and experience.
