Position

SHI NA has an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to lead and manage the foundation relations function. This position requires someone who has experience in management and overseeing strategic foundation and major funder cultivation to secure major grants, excellent writing and editing skills, and a deep understanding of and commitment to SHI’s mission. The Director of Foundation Relations and Outreach will be responsible for developing new philanthropic partnerships for priority initiatives and programs. This professional will manage the key account management/funder servicing elements, supervise staff, liaise with program professionals and executive staff, and will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Institutional Advancement as a member of a global development team that includes personnel across North America and Israel.

This position is based in-person four days per week in our office in Manhattan.

Responsibilities

• Pursue and secure major funding grants for Hartman priority activity from current funders and new prospects including Foundations, family foundations, Jewish Federations and venture philanthropy;
• Build and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with funders/foundations to ensure success throughout the grant process; serve as a primary face of SHI NA with foundation staff in effectively promoting programmatic and research efforts in North America;
• Lead processes to identify and cultivate new foundation relationships and funding opportunities;
• Lead grant writing and report processes, managing various development and program staff and deadlines to achieve critical fundraising objectives in an organized and structured manner;
• Write, edit and oversee high quality preparation of written LOIs, proposals, and reports, edit and write when necessary to ensure the persuasive communication of SHI NA’s mission/vision, programs, strategy, learning/evaluation efforts, and impact tailored to the interests of each funder;
• Collaborate with finance team to ensure that grant budgets and foundation narratives are aligned;
• Develop and deliver funder cultivation and reporting presentations to major prospects/funding partners;
• Coordinate educational initiatives to engage North American foundation professionals with the ideas, scholarship and activity of the Institute including seminars and Philanthropic Professionals track at Hartman’s annual Community Leadership Program (CLP).

Qualifications

• Superior writing, editing, and relationship skills
• Exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and skilled at managing complex teams, deadlines, and processes
• Highly professional demeanor
• Compelling and persuasive public presenter
• Proven ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-energy environment
• Deep familiarity with American Jewish philanthropic landscape and Jewish giving to Israel
• Experience working with budgets and fiscal acumen
• Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively
• Flexible work style with the ability to work under tight deadlines and with shifting priorities
• Able to manage multiple complex tasks
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications – proven ability using Excel
• Experience working with customer relationship management systems; Proficiency and experience with Salesforce a plus
• Good sense of humor
• A minimum of 12 years of experience in fundraising, not-for-profit operations, or a related field
• MA or equivalent in related field (such as Non-Profit Management, Communications) preferred

Salary range and benefits: $160,000 - $180,000, commensurate with experience. Very competitive benefits package. SHI NA is an equal opportunity employer.
