POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director of Human Resources reports to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer. The Director of Human Resources will lead a comprehensive human resources program in support of Milken’s faculty, staff and administration.  In collaboration with the Chief Financial and Operating Officer, the Director of Human Resources will provide leadership and oversight of the school’s compensation, employee benefits, recruitment and onboarding, employee relations, leaves of absence, compliance, employee training and development, employee evaluation, job descriptions, record-keeping and reporting, human resources information management, employee recognition, and employee wellness programs.  


RESPONSIBILITIES 

General Operations

  • Consults with, advises, and supports the leadership team as well as faculty, staff, and administration in human resources related matters.
  • Maintains complete and current employee files.
  • Supervises the Human Resources Coordinator.
  • Oversees Milken’s Human Resources Information Systems and HR Intranet webpage.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Talent Acquisition: recruiting and retention

  • Oversees and supports recruitment and onboarding of new employees in all positions including faculty, staff, administration, coaches, substitute teachers, and other casual employees. 
  • Ensures Milken’s recruitment efforts seek to attract a rich and diverse pool of qualified applicants, consistent with Milken’s recruitment policy.
  • Oversees the development, periodic review, and maintenance of employee job descriptions.
  • Works with supervisors to develop and execute recruitment plans. 
  • Conducts new hire orientations.  Ensures that new hire paperwork is completed.

Performance Management and Employee Relations

  • Actively fosters a culture of commitment to and care for the school’s faculty, staff, and administration.
  • Oversees employee wellness and employee recognition programs.
  • Provides oversight for Milken’s employee evaluation and review process.
  • Provides on-going coaching and feedback for supervisors.
  • Ensures legal and effective performance write-ups, including, when necessary, termination processes. 
  • Delivers regular performance management and legal compliance training for supervisors.
  • Leads strategic plan initiatives around goal attainment, annual performance evaluation processes, year-round performance management systems, and differentiation of performance evaluation processes for leadership, faculty, admin faculty, and staff.  

Compensation and Benefits

  • In collaboration with the Head of School and the Chief Financial and Operations Officer, provides oversight for the school’s compensation program for all school employees. 
  • Collects and analyzes current market compensation data for all positions and makes compensation recommendations during the annual budget process.
  • Oversees annual contract renewal and salary change process for all employees.
  • Oversees workers compensation, ensuring timely filing of claims and employee support.
  • Makes compensation and employee benefit plan recommendations designed to ensure Milken’s overall compensation and benefits package is competitive and attractive to current and potential Milken employees.
  • Oversees Milken’s employee benefit programs including plan design, employee support, annual open enrollment, vendor relations, COBRA, and invoice processing. Benefits package includes group medical/vision, dental insurance, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings account, long-term care insurance, voluntary life insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off. 
  • Manages the electronic employee benefit enrollment and information portal.
  • Responds to benefit questions as well as provide assistance and support to employees with special or unusual circumstances
  • Collaborates with the Controller to perform semi-monthly payroll and to ensure that all employee related changes are effectively communicated and processed in a timely manner.

Training and Compliance

  • Ensures compliance with school policies and procedures, as well as with local, state, and federal employment related laws and regulations. 
  • Keeps school administration and employees informed of applicable laws, policies and legal requirements, as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with the Leadership team and department supervisors to develop and implement an employee training program including mandatory and recommended training. Includes, but is not limited to: mandatory sexual harassment training, Mandatory Reporter training, CPR training, general safety training, etc.
  • Oversees annual EEOC and CRD filings and provides data for other annual requests and surveys.
  • Performs retirement plan administrator duties.
  • In collaboration with the Leadership team and Milken’s legal counsel, maintains the Employee Handbook and develops and administers the school’s human resources policies.
  • Consult with outside legal counsel on employment law matters, as necessary.
  • Oversees employee leaves of absence, including timely notices to employees and support for employees throughout leave. Works collaboratively with the Controller to coordinate pay with state benefits.


QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates should have a combination of education and experience equivalent to:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development or a related field is required. PHR/SPHR or other human resources certification is a plus; Master’s is a plus.
  • 8-10 years or more of prior experience providing comprehensive human resources services across all human resources functional areas, including five years or more of experience in a senior leadership, management, or director role which includes supervision of staff and providing human resources consultative services to administrators/managers and employees is desired.
  • Prior experience providing human resources services in a school environment is desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience of the payroll function is desirable.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

This is a full-time, 12 month per year, salaried/exempt from overtime position. The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience. The expected salary range for the position is $125,000 to $155,000 annually depending on qualifications.
