Description

Are you passionate about inspiring others through music, Torah, and community? Our vibrant and welcoming Conservative synagogue is looking for a dynamic Cantor to be a key leader in shaping our spiritual, educational, and cultural life. If you love working with all ages, leading uplifting worship, and creating meaningful Jewish moments, this is the job for you! As our Cantor, you’ll wear many hats: Prayer leader, Torah teacher, b’nai mitzvah mentor, musical leader, and all-around Jewish role model. We are looking for someone who brings enthusiasm, creativity, and a love of Jewish tradition to every part of their work. Bonus points if you’ve ever been the life of the campfire at a summer camp or led ruach-filled youth group programs—because we believe that joy is at the heart of Jewish life!

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prayer and Torah Professional:
  • Lead our congregation in thoughtful prayer  and collaborate with the Rabbi in creating and leading innovative and meaningful worship services
  • Be our go-to Torah expert. You will chant Torah at services, mentor new Torah readers, and make the ancient text come alive for our community.
  • Train and guide congregants who want to participate in services (and they do!).
  • Ensure our Torah scrolls and ritual objects are treated with care and kavod.
  1. B’nai Mitzvah Professional:
  • Lead an engaging b’nai mitzvah program that helps our many youth (and their families!) feel confident and connected.
  • Teach Torah and Haftarah chanting, prayer leadership, and what it means to be a b’nai mitzvah.
  • Build strong relationships with our families and make each b’nai mitzvah feel personal and meaningful.
  • Use your creativity to make the learning process fun, memorable, and rooted in Jewish values.
  1. Musical Professional:
  • Lead inspiring and participatory worship, combining traditional and contemporary melodies to uplift the congregation.
  • Infuse ruach into every service, whether it’s Shabbat, High Holidays, or a special celebration.
  • Develop and direct musical programs, from adult choirs to youth ensembles to tot programs, that bring the community together.
  • Teach music in our popular and highly-regarded religious school.
  • Plan musical workshops, concerts, or educational sessions to highlight the rich diversity of Jewish music.
  • Bring fresh energy and ideas to our musical traditions while honoring the beauty of the nusach.
  1. Collaborative Leadership:
  • Work hand-in-hand with our Rabbi, staff and lay leaders to create programs that inspire every member of our community.
  • Strengthen connections within the synagogue by engaging with congregants and participating in pastoral care.
  • Bring your camp or youth group leadership skills to enhance family programming, holiday celebrations, and fun community gatherings.
  • Support lifecycle events—whether it’s officiating at a wedding, leading a shiva service, or celebrating a baby naming—with warmth and care.
  1. Administrative and Programmatic:
  • Partner with clergy and staff to plan High Holiday services, train Torah readers, and coordinate musical elements.
  • Keep b’nai mitzvah schedules, Torah readings, and musical programs running smoothly.
  • Collaborate on communications and marketing for events and programs—let’s make sure everyone knows about the amazing things happening here!
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the overall energy and vision of the synagogue.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A strong foundation in Torah chanting, nusach, and Jewish liturgical music, with a willingness and the ability to balance tradition and creativity.
  • Exceptional teaching skills and the ability to connect with learners of all ages.
  • Musical talent (bonus points if you play guitar or another instrument!) and a voice that inspires participation.
  • A warm and approachable presence that makes congregants feel welcome and valued.
  • Experience with camp or youth programming is a huge plus.
  • Visionary and collaborative leadership style.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills
  • Tech-savvy with the ability to use digital tools to enhance learning and music (or eager to learn).

Why You’ll Love It Here:

  • A warm, supportive community that values tradition and innovation.
  • Opportunities to bring your ideas to life and make a real impact.
  • A team that knows how to work hard and have fun!
  • Competitive salary and benefits package, including health insurance, professional development, and synagogue membership.
  • Relocation assistance (if applicable).

We can’t wait to meet you and hear how you will bring your talents, energy, and love for Jewish life to our community.
