Seeking Rabbinic/Spiritual LeaderCongregation Beth Israel, a Conservative Congregation, located in Flint, Michigan, is seeking a part-time Rabbinic/Spiritual leader to lead services by ZOOM (out of town) or in-person (local) twice a month (Saturday morning) and in-person for High Holiday services (Rosh HaShana & Yom Kippur). We are conducting a search for a Part-TimeRabbinic/Spiritual Leader, who will promote Jewish traditions, values, and teachings within the congregation, and develop relationships with our membership & community. Presently CBI is a lay-led congregation. We are a vibrant, cohesive and extremely active synagogue with a warm and welcoming spirit. We relocated, as a result of our decliningnumbers, into a small chapel within the Reform Temple building. We enjoy a close-knit relationship with the Jewish community. There are two other Jewishcongregations in Flint: Temple Beth El of the Reform movement; and Chabad House of Eastern Michigan, an Orthodox congregation. Our Saturday morning Shabbat Serviceattracts about 15-20 weekly participants both on ZOOM & in-person, and on the High Holidays we attract about 45-50 people. Our congregants volunteer & read Torah/Haftarahportions on a weekly basis.
Rabbi/Spiritual Leader ResponsibilitiesCongregational Care? Plan and lead Saturday morning Shabbat services twice a month either by ZOOM(out oftown) or in person (local) including leading prayers, delivering divrei Torah, and providingfor meaningful interpretations of Jewish texts and teachings during the service or in a textstudy session? Plan and lead High Holiday services(Rosh Ha Shana & Yom Kippur) in person only? Offer guidance and support to congregants in matters of spirituality and religiousobservance? Provide compassionate support, encouragement, and counseling to congregants duringtimes of joy, grief, illness, and other life transitions? Collaborate with the CBI ritual committee for scheduling of Shabbat services & work withCantor/Cantorial soloist for planning & leading in-person High Holiday services
Desired Qualities of a Rabbinic/Spiritual LeaderThe qualities we are looking for in a Rabbinic/Spiritual Leader include:? Ordination as a Rabbi from a recognized rabbinical seminary OR similar experience as aSpiritual Leader in leading Shabbat/High Holiday services? Ability to share pulpit with other clergy member in planning/leading High Holiday services? Interpersonal and communication skills? Demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities? Understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles and their connection to Jewishlife across a spectrum of racial, cultural, and gender identities? Knowledgeable about the State of Israel, an understanding and commitment to itsflourishing, and a willingness to honor congregants who have diverse perspectives onthe Middle East
Salary commensurate with experience up to $40,000 (excluding travel/housing expensesfor out of town)? Since this is a part-time position, it is acceptable to hold other positions which do notconflict with your duties at CBI.
