The Program and Membership Engagement Director is a well-organized, detail-oriented, and highly efficient doer who is capable of managing and executing multiple projects simultaneously.  This person is kind, friendly, and a collaborative team-player and enjoys engaging with people.  The Program and Membership Engagement Director is charged with getting to know our members and helping them connect with each other and with the congregation in ways that speak to each individual’s particular passions and interests.  This person will also provide administrative and logistical support for congregational programs, as needed.

 

Duties (Most important areas of work):

 Membership Engagement

  • Meet with congregants to get to know their interests, talents, and ways in which they would like to engage in the Temple community, and create and maintain a database to track this information.
  • Help congregants with similar interests connect with each other in order to form relationships, to attend Temple events together, and/or to work together on programs.
  • Identify and recommend congregants who, based on their interests and skills, can serve on committees and task forces.
  • Oversee the ongoing membership engagement projects and committees, including: College Connect, Cultural Arts, Women’s Programming, Membership Committee, Shabbat@Home, Special Events, etc.
  • Connect with other temple groups to strengthen membership ties, including Early Childhood, Brotherhood, Sisterhood, Religious School, etc.
  • Lead temple membership administration: including welcoming/touring prospective and new members, updating membership accounts, tracking membership engagement and coordinating outreach strategies, work with staff team on dues collections and communication, etc.

 

Membership Recruitment & Support

  • Serve as the staff lead on the Membership Committee: attend all Membership Committee meetings, support the chair in their leadership of the committee, and keep senior staff updated on the committee’s activities and needs.
  • Develop initiatives to recruit new members, and partner with lay leaders, volunteers, and professional staff to implement these initiatives.

 

Programming & Support

  • Serve as the lead staff person to create and implement programs in assigned areas of responsibility (listed above), as well as other programs as assigned by the senior rabbi.
  • Recruit volunteers to help plan and implement programs in partnership with our professional team and organize volunteer opportunities for congregants to get involved in the temple. 
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to senior staff and lay volunteers in organizing and executing programs – including, but not limited to calendaring, booking venues, procuring needed supplies, coordinating room set-ups, tracking RSVPs, serving as greeter, check-in host, etc.

 

Teamwork

  • Work collaboratively as part of Temple’s professional team to create a holy Jewish community, to help our congregants discover Jewish meaning and purpose, and to create a collegial and friendly work environment.
  • Have a visible and active role in the life of the synagogue and the Jewish community.

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media tools.  The highest level of comfort with technology to plan, program and engage our community.
  • Comfort working with people of all ages and demographics.
  • Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule as needed, including nights, weekends, and Shabbat and Jewish holidays when programs require your presence.
