Position Overview

The Chief Program Officer (CPO) is the programmatic and operational leader of a multi-faceted department comprising itrek’s Graduate Programs, Launchpad, Education, and Israel Programs & Operations. The CPO will lead a high performing team of 12 members based in both the New York and Tel Aviv offices and guide them in both intra- and inter-departmental collaboration. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Executive Management Team, the CPO is responsible for shaping and implementing the strategic vision and annual goals for the organization’s programming. The CPO works closely with the CEO on programmatic strategy and leads the execution. This position is best suited for someone who thrives in a culture that blends an impact driven nonprofit with a business environment and in a high growth stage. 

Primary Responsibilities

    • Lead the work of the Programming department in NY and Tel Aviv, including all aspects of program development, execution, evaluation, and budgeting. This includes working closely with the COO and Sr. Director of Finance & Administration to budget and monitor programmatic operations to ensure sound fiscal and system management. It also includes collaboration with the COO on impact evaluation and measurement across all of itrek’s programmatic offerings.
    • Manage a high performing team including guiding members through the annual goal setting and budget process, performance reviews, team and individual growth, team dynamics, and mentoring department leadership on managing their direct reports.
    • Lead a culture of learning amongst the Programming Department including in-house training and professional development.
    • Guide the operations of 100+ Israel Treks annually including recruitment of Leaders, itinerary development, budget management, partnerships with Tour Operators, speakers and experiences, and risk management.
    • Oversee the development and implementation of all educational content, resources, and materials. Lead the annual Accelerator Weekend, a conference for current Israel Trek Leaders to learn, connect, and be inspired. Supervise all aspects of the ‘itrek Academy’ conferences and seminars in Israel. 
    • Expand and scale itrek’s business through itrek Launchpad, currently in the pilot phase, a program to serve audiences beyond graduate school students with engaging and impactful Israel travel experiences. Partner with the CEO to identify new opportunities, develop partnerships, and ensure Launchpad aligns with the organization’s mission and vision.
    • Lead the implementation and adoption of organizational policies, processes and business systems by the Programming Department.
    • Develop new areas of compelling programming by being innovative and willing to challenge the status quo; looking outside the organization for inspiration and best practices.
    • Lead Programming-related Board committee and task forces in partnership with lay leaders. 
    • Serve as a key member of the Executive Management Team.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • Minimum 10 years of related experience in management of programmatic execution, Israel education, program development and implementation
  • Must have experience supervising a hybrid team of at least 5 or more with the ability to both supervise, mentor and cultivate team dynamics
  • Passion for itrek’s mission and embrace of nuance and open dialogue around Israel. Experience working in the Israel travel and/or group travel industry, a plus
  • Expert program operator, action-oriented with exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, adept at managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excitement to work in a mission-driven, growth stage, collaborative, team-oriented, fast-paced, and innovative environment
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides), Microsoft Office, and familiarity with other workplace software such as Salesforce, Slack, Monday
  • Travel to Israel and domestically (approximately 20%)

Salary range $170,000-$195,000; commensurate with experience 

itrek is a hybrid work environment with a minimum of two days per week in the office.
