Kol Ami is a leading Reform synagogue in the Phoenix Valley area seeking a full-time, hands-on Marketing and Communications Manager. Kol Ami provides spiritual, educational, cultural, social activities, programs, and services to more than 400 families and participants.
This role is a key member of the organization’s leadership team, focusing on both short and long-term success. This is a forward-facing position and is responsible for managing and creating digital, print, internal and external communications, and helping to articulate and implement an ongoing communications and branding strategy. We seek an individual who will take a proactive, creative role in developing strategy, provide a strong voice for communications, and broaden outreach and in-reach to our community.
This is a full time position. The Marketing and Communication Specialist should be willing to work some weekends and evenings as needed.
This position reports to the Executive Director and works in close collaboration with the Clergy and program staff.
Marketing and Communications
- Work with Executive Director, Clergy and program staff to develop and align marketing communication and social media initiatives to ensure that Kol Ami’s overall mission, vision and culture are successful.
- Review, strengthen and maintain internal communication processes and branding standards.
- Proactively create marketing materials and communications about temple like, activities, member engagement and benefits.
- Responsible for design, editing, production and distribution of all communications to congregation and community, including weekly email and event blasts, memorial and birth notices, all digital material required for events and services, and interactive sign-ups for events.
- Manage the website and event calendars, including internal global calendar, website community calendar and Jewish Phoenix community calendar using a Wordpress content management system, or equivalent system.
- Responsible for proofreading of all communication materials.
- Plan and manage a social media strategy (including Facebook, Instagram, etc) designed to support membership recruitment and retention, all programs, school enrollment, increase engagement and maximize fundraising
- Design, edit and produce other material, including special events collateral (digital and hard copy), staff and Clergy productions of event and program marketing (which may include blogs, ads, news eblasts, etc)
- Attend weekly staff meetings, supervision meetings and be available to all staff for face-to face meetings and discussions as needed.
- Other miscellaneous projects/tasks as needed; support for all Jewish Holiday and other programs and events as needed.
- Evaluate open rates to ensure that our members are seeing and engaging with information that we are sharing.
- Serve as liaison to volunteer task forces for marketing and communications strategies and collateral development.
- Assist in managing online registrations, purchasing marketing supplies.
Required Qualifications:
A successful Manager will be highly motivated, possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills, understand synagogue culture, and have a highly developed capacity to innovate. They will demonstrate:
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills and ability to relate effectively with Clergy, staff, Board of Trustees and other programmatic volunteer leadership;
- Minimum three year’s experience in communications. Marketing and graphic design.
- Minimum two years’ experience reviewing, strengthening, and maintaining internal communication processes, editorial style guide, and brand standards.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple ongoing and developing tasks while following through on short- and long-term responsibilities, plus attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality;
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with maturity, discretion, diplomacy, and professionalism;
- Ability to thrives in a team environment, but is a self-starter who thinks strategically and can produce and quickly implement detail-oriented plans and materials;
- Technology proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), and design applications, experience with various social media platforms, Constant Contact and Canva
- Ability to grasp concepts, communicate with staff and work quickly
- Knowledge of Reform Judaism a plus.

- Expert-proficiency with social-media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and similar.
- Microsoft Office Suite
