THE POSITION
The William Davidson Graduate School of Jewish Education trains the leaders who will shape the lives and communities of the Jewish people for decades to come. One of JTS’ five schools, the non-denominational Davidson School offers MA and EdD degrees and provides field-based professional growth opportunities for educators and leaders across the spectrum of settings in which they work.
The Dean of the Davidson School will shape the direction of the school, mentor the faculty, and guide professional staff of the school in fulfilling its commitment to teaching, research, and service to the field. The dean will work to maintain JTS’ stature as a thought leader in the field of Jewish education, to ensure that academic and certificate programs are aligned with the needs of the Jewish community and with strategic direction of JTS, and to maximize the communal impact of JTS through the programs of the school. Familiarity with the broad range of Jewish educational venues is essential, as are administrative experience and a record of scholarly and professional achievement. RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide inspirational and operational leadership to the Davidson School staff and faculty.
• Refresh and broaden the activities of the Davidson School in order to strengthen its position as a central address for both academic scholarship and programmatic, project-based initiatives in the field.
• Teach 3 courses per year and share in advising the work of doctoral students.
• Be a public face for the Davidson School throughout the Jewish community, the community at large, community partners, the academic/education arena, and funders.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Practical experience as a senior professional and change agent in an academic or related setting with a record of achievement in leadership, management, program development & administration, and financial operations.
• Direct experience as an educator and/or educational leader is highly desirable.
• Ability to effectively and persuasively promote the Davidson school to current and potential students, partners, donors and various stakeholders throughout the community.
• Doctorate in Education or related field required.
