Temple Israel is seeking a dynamic and organized individual to join our team as a full-time Clergy Assistant. In this pivotal role, you will provide essential administrative support to our rabbinical staff while fostering collaboration across various departments. This position offers an outstanding opportunity for individuals who excel in supporting others within a collaborative, supportive, and tightly knit environment.

 

Summary: The Clergy Assistant collaborates closely with all staff, lay leaders, and volunteers, taking direction from a pair of our clergy members and reporting to our Assistant Executive Director. The role demands a high level of professionalism, discretion, empathy, and self-motivation, encompassing a variety of administrative duties, some of which may be complex or confidential in nature.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the clergy calendar, scheduling appointments, and prioritizing tasks.
  • Prepare written correspondence and documents as requested.
  • Screen incoming calls and visitors, ensuring appropriate follow-up.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion with sensitive information.
  • Coordinate administrative tasks for lifecycle events, holidays, and services.
  • Assist in the creation, copying, and distribution of documents.
  • Undertake additional projects and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Provide general support in the administrative office and assist other clergy assistants when needed.

 

Skills and Educational Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Proficient in writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and presentation abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Commitment to upholding the goals and mission of Temple Israel.
