Description

We are seeking a diligent and inspired leader with strong regenerative farming and education skills to join Eden Village Camp as our Educational Farm Director. This position is a full-time position with a requirement to be on-site at our Putnam Valley location from April 1 through September 30 each year, with the ability to work remotely October 1 through March 30th each year.

For the 2025 season, the Educational Farm Director will assist the current Farm Manager with the farm management, while focusing primarily on farm education and camp programming. In 2026, the Farm Director will lead the farming team. As part of the Program Team, you will manage the farm staff, camp programs, year-round programming, and farm program curriculum; you will assist the Management team with developing and implementing the ongoing strategy of the farm program. You will work closely with and be trained by the Assistant Director. You will serve as a leader in the Spring, Summer, and Fall communities, working to support our entire staff.   In the winter months, you will plan next season's farm, recruit next season's farm educators, and assist the Program Team and Management Team with programs and camper recruitment. 

Our farm is based on permaculture, regenerative and organic ethos. We grow diversified vegetables, flowers, fruit trees and tend to bees, chickens and goats. We partner with another local farm to grow many of our vegetable starts, allowing our on-site growing season to begin on April 1st.

The Educational Farm Director:

  • Manages Eden Village’s 3 acre farm and animal program
  • Managing the farm labor plan, including farm staff and other summer staff who “plug-in” with the farm team during the summer
  • Maintaining site-wide composting system
  • Train Farm staff in farming practices and skills
  • Manage post-harvest; liaise with Executive Chef on crop plan and harvest schedules
  • Focalizes and leads the off-season live-in community at camp in the Spring and Fall
  • Oversees the educational programs on the farm, in the summer and during the Spring & Fall
  • Assists with programmatic and operational tasks of Summer Camp during the non-growing season, including staff hiring, camper events, program planning, and more



You have:

  • 2+ seasons of farming experience
  • Clear communication and ability to supervise post-college adults
  • Ability to work alone and be self-guided
  • Ability to problem-solve and step into many different roles as needed
  • Ability to lift more than 50 pounds
  • Ability to sustain long and dynamic days for the growing season and especially during the summer camp period (~10 weeks)
  • Ability to manage timelines, budgets, and project management administrative tasks
  • High levels of curiosity and the desire to take initiative to learn new things
  • Capacity to make Eden Village Camp a warm and inviting place to be
  • Previous experiences in a camp, school or similar environment is preferred
  • The position can be remote on the East Coast during the non-growing season, with a strong preference for working in person in Philadelphia or Boston, or at our camp site in Putnam Valley, NY (housing is available year-round at the camp site)
  • This position must be in residence at Camp in Putnam Valley, NY from April through September
  • Occasional weekend and evening events during the year

 

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual salary range of $42,000-50,000, depending on experience, with option for year-round housing provided. (An allowance for staff housing will be deducted from the annual salary for staff residing on-site full-time).
  • Salary will be adjusted according to our professional staff salary scale for those whose professional experience greatly exceeds the posted requirements.  If you meet some of the requirements, but not all, we encourage you to apply. The salary offered will be commensurate with our professional staff salary scale, which may be less than the posted salary
  • Benefits package including generous paid time off, federal and Jewish holidays, health insurance ($50 employee co-premium), funded HRA, retirement contributions, parental leave, yearly professional development funds, flexible schedule, and work-from-home option
  • During the summer season, staff work 6 days per week. 4 day and 4.5 day work weeks from September to April (after first full summer). Daily work hours expectations scale up and down with the season.
