Makom Making Project Manager 
Full-Time

Makom Community is looking for a project manager who has a passion for building systems, growing a department, and event planning. 

Primary Responsibilities

1. Create structures for our national Jewish Placemaking accreditation work 50%

  • September- January
    1. Observe in Lab School 2-3 days a week 
    2. Participate in educator text study 
    3. Review past local/regional accelerator materials and be part of the team that develops the curriculum for the accelerator 
      1. Serve as project manager for this exciting initiative
    4. Evaluate and design systems for our Makom Making work
  • February-June
    1. Project manage the recruitment and application process of the national accelerator applicants
    2. Coordinate logistics and communications with participants for our summer conference
      1. This requires project management, event planning, and communication skills

2. Project manage and lead the communication strategy around Lab School evaluation 30%=

  1. Liaise between the Executive Director, Director of Teaching and Learning, Educator and Researcher, and Jewish Placemaking Fellows in our Lab School research process
  2. Create systems for executing research questions, eventually to be scaled by other educators across the nation 
  3. Plan and facilitate project meetings to align the research team to methods and goals and to track project progress
  4. Evaluate the research data and create overview evaluation reports
  5. Manage the communication plan around sharing these research findings in areas such as the Makom Community blog, other industry publications, and/or working with the Director of Strategy on how to facilitate learning opportunities for educators across the nation 
    1. Establish and post on our Makom Community Linkedin account
    2. Post on behalf of Makom Community in professional Facebook groups
      • Depending on your areas of interest and skills, you have the opportunity to write copy around these communications 

3. Be the primary administrator with our Makom Making consultants and communicate Makom Making initiatives 20%

  1. Create Makom Making client proposals 
  2. Ensure we are utilizing our new database to its full potential to support consulting work 

4. When needed: Support Makom Community’s Lab School Operations 

  1. Pick students up by walking or public transit daily from an area elementary school; walk up to two miles round-trip in temperatures between 15F and 105F 
  2. Support classroom teachers when part-time educators are out 
  3. Build relationships with students and their grownups
  4. Grow Makom Community’s culture of intentionality, empathy, and listening deeply to children and their adults
  5. Support Family Programming throughout the year:
    1. Staff 5-6 Friday evening dinners or weekday evening learning showcases until 8:00pm.
    2. Staff 1-2 Saturday morning or evening commitments.
    3. Staff a prayer service and celebration the morning of the first day of Rosh Hashanah.
  6. Required within 30 days of hire: Maintain all appropriate background checks: PA State Police, PA Child Abuse History, and FBI fingerprinting

Supporters & Collaborators

  • You will have regular supervision with the Director of Strategy where you will set goals for your own learning and growth and check in with them regularly 
  • You will collaborate with:
    • Executive Director and Founder around our national Makom Making work and our conference 
    • Director of Teaching and Learning around research and needed support in the Lab School 
    • Jewish Placemaking Fellows and the Educator & Researcher around research

Makom Community: A Lab School and Leader in the field of Jewish Education 

Makom Community is a Jewish Lab School that creates family-centered Jewish experiences. At Makom we take the practice of self-reflection and iteration in the classroom seriously, and this is the foundation on which we collect research data in our Lab School. This research is then used to strengthen our unique pedagogy of Jewish Placemaking. We then train and support Jewish educators across North America in bringing Jewish Placemaking to their home communities. 

At Makom we offer Monday-Friday high-quality Jewish education as after school enrichment for children in K-12th grade. Jewish holidays, text, Hebrew, and Jewish prayer are integrated into our daily time together. We welcome the excitement of children. We strive to create an environment where it is safe for parents to learn alongside their children. We cultivate fluency and comfort in Jewish tradition through our joyful youth and family experiences. Makom is committed to building a Jewish community that is open to anyone who wants to engage with Jewish traditions alongside their family, and then use the foundation of community to create a more just world.

Salary Range & Start Date 

$58,000-65,000 - Starting Monday, August 14

  • 403(b) retirement account
  • Up to 2 mornings (Thursday and Friday) per week available to work from home per our work from home policy
  • 3 weeks paid time off and 1 week sick leave
    • 10 days paid time off and 5 days sick leave available during the school year by approval, with at least 2 weeks advance notice, available beginning 60 days from start date.
    • 5 days paid when our office is closed at the end of June 
  • Office closed for Jewish holidays, except the first day of Rosh Hashanah 
  • Funding available for professional development
