History of Jewish Immigration Instructor

 

Job Summary

Jewish Community Center of Mid-Westchester (JCCMW) seeks part-time, in-person Hebrew language teacher for a college-level high school class through American Jewish University. Classes will meet 2.5 hours on Thursday evenings, including a 15-minute break, for 16  weeks, from September to February. Students in 11th and 12th grade participating in this class will be highly motivated. All curriculum and materials are also provided by American Jewish University. 

 

Key Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Teach 16 in person Hebrew classes using AJU’s curricular materials and provide make-up classes.
  • Hold once a week Zoom office hours.
  • Communicate with students outside of class hours to support their coursework.
  • Coordinate with AJU’s Jewish Learning Initiative office.
  • The class is contingent upon minimum class enrollments.  

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in Jewish Studies
  • Five years of experience teaching Judaic Studies at a college level
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Inviting teaching style.
  • Love of Jewish history.

 

Physical Requirements

The physical demands must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job include movement within a classroom environment. The role requires the ability to write by hand and use a keyboard to perform general office functions. Also requires the ability to communicate by speech and hearing continuously. Visual acuity is needed for detailed work, and computer use. The ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time is also a requirement.

 

The starting salary for this role is $7,000 for the 16-weeks and based on experience.
