Description

Westchester Jewish Center is seeking a dynamic and experienced **Communications Professional** to oversee and execute all internal and external communication strategies. This role involves managing weekly emails, monthly newsletters, and targeted event communications to effectively engage with our diverse community. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in communications, an understanding of community engagement, and the ability to convey the mission and vision of WJC across multiple platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

 Communication Strategy and Execution

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communication plan that aligns with the synagogue's goals and vision. 
  • Coordinate consistent, accurate, and engaging messaging for all communication materials. 
  • Lead and be responsible for the collaboration with committee chairs on big campaigns and key events to create goals, deliverables, and an editorial calendar for communication 

 Weekly Email Communication

  • Create, design, and distribute weekly and standalone emails, ensuring timely updates on events, services, and community news.
  • Recommend and implement a more efficient email cadence and distribution plan.

 Periodic Printed Newsletters: “The Review”

  • Write, edit, and design monthly newsletters, highlighting recent events, upcoming programs, and other relevant information.  
  • Collaborate with staff, clergy, and lay leadership to gather content and ensure inclusivity of different programs and voices. 

Event-Specific Communications

  • Design targeted communication campaigns for synagogue events, fundraisers, and holidays. 
  • Ensure consistency in messaging and tone across promotional materials, the WJC website, social media, and email campaigns.  

 Brand Management

  • Maintain and enhance the synagogue’s voice and visual identity across all communication platforms. 
  • Ensure all communication aligns with the synagogue's values and resonates with its members.  

Analytics and Feedback

  • Monitor engagement metrics (e.g., email open rates, click-through rates) and optimize communications for maximum impact. 
  • Gather feedback from community members to continuously improve communication strategies.  

 Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.  
  • Experience: 5-7 years of professional experience in a communications role, preferably in a nonprofit or community-focused organization.  
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail.  
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.  
  • Familiarity with Jewish traditions, holidays, and customs (preferred).  

 Key Competencies:

  • Adaptability to work with diverse stakeholders and audiences.  
  • Creativity, an eye for design, experience with communication design platforms.
  • Familiarity with Shulcloud is a plus.
  • Proficient in website management using Wordpress
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  
  • Proficiency in social media and digital marketing strategies.
