Yeshiva Har Torah, an academically progressive, Centrist Orthodox Pre-K-8 school, located on the border between Queens and Nassau Country, is looking to hire a Director of Development. 

 

POSITION OVERVIEW: 

The Director of Development will work closely with the Head of School, Executive Director, and Board of Directors to oversee and manage all aspects of YHT’s development and fundraising. This position will report directly to the Head of School. The Director of Development must be able to design and implement a comprehensive and results-oriented development plan, including traditional and innovative strategies. Key components of this plan should include goals, strategies, and timetables for annual operating, capital, and endowment campaigns, and should include a focus on building key relationships with families, community, corporate and foundation leaders, and alumni. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develop and implement a short and long-term advancement plan to meet established development goals and objectives. This includes, but is not limited to, strategic initiatives for securing major gifts, annual gifts, endowment gifts, capital gifts, implementing a robust alumni giving program, driving stewardship and prospecting tactics, enhancing special fundraising/cultivation events, and developing new approaches to supporting traditional advancement initiatives.
  • Provide daily management of development activities. 
  •  Drive development opportunities through publications, grant submissions, reports, and collateral materials for cultivating and stewarding donors. 
  • Oversee an active fundraising and capital campaign committee.
  • Produce monthly reports to demonstrate progress and present updates regularly to the Board of Directors.
  • Work collaboratively with PTA leadership and key constituents including board members, alumni, grandparents, parents, friends, and community members through relational cultivation efforts. 
  • Clearly articulate and promote a strong case of need for philanthropy in Jewish education and building opportunities to create and sustain a culture that understands the relationship between philanthropy and a unique, superior, and affordable YHT education. 
  • Oversee management of gift processing and donor acknowledgment, a donor database, and financial reporting. 
  • Manage prospect research and cultivation initiatives with a special emphasis on pursuing strategies to secure or increase giving from donors. 
  • Develop strategies for existing donors to effectively move them through a meaningful cycle of giving. 
  • Attend YHT events and activities, fostering (and feeling!) significant pride and excitement for fundraising efforts. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Proven track record of fundraising success, particularly by securing major gifts, managing a building campaign, successfully managing campaigns, and engaging a community of motivated supporters.
  • 5 to 7+ years of increasing responsibility in non-profit fundraising, preferably within an independent school, Jewish day school or other Jewish organization. 
  • Demonstrates leadership, embodies the YHT mission, and exemplifies a collaborative, decisive, motivating and engaging communication style.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a sophisticated work environment, maintaining an organized and dynamic list of projects and next steps . 
  • Strong writing skills and ability to use Microsoft Office suite of products, including Microsoft Excel
  • Working knowledge of development best practices, trends in education and development, fundraising tools and technology, including donor databases, e-mail, social media, and online campaigns, and donor research.
  • Extreme tact and discretion, attention to detail, ability to maintain confidentiality, and a commitment to excellence.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, or other related fields a plus.
