The Assistant Principal is a member of the Educational Leadership Team and is involved in the administration, organization, safety, supervision and educational leadership of the school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
In coordination with other members of the Educational Leadership Team, the Assistant Principal:
- Demonstrates commitment to student achievement, school improvement, and professional development.
- Has strong leadership qualities and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Has the ability to use and understand the role of data in a school environment.
- Ability to lead teachers through conversations about using data to inform decisions.
- Familiarity with conducting data-based decisions.
- Knowledge of current information, theory, and research in education.
- Commitment to innovation and creativity.
- Provides a positive learning climate in the school by establishing, enforcing and maintaining appropriate student behavior standards and guidelines.
- Facilitates Schechter’s discipline policy and all policies laid out in our Family Handbook.
- Cultivates and sustains positive relationships with families, staff, and students.
- Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and works with the main office for follow-up actions.
- Leads teachers through professional development related to student behavior and developmental milestones.
- Supports teachers through creating a classroom environment that reflects the tenets of Responsive Classroom and Collaborative Problem Solving.
- Ensures efficient and effective performance of assigned staff within Schechter human resources policies and procedures by assigning, supervising, and scheduling the work of assigned staff.
- Supervise faculty members.
- Coordinates the supervision of students.
- Responsible for co-creating the duty schedule and supervising teachers on duty.
- Be present to all students and staff on a daily basis, form relationships with students, and ensure safety.
- Coordinates special schedules and ensures staff and student participation.
- Support substitute coordinator in ensuring classrooms are appropriately staffed.
- Advises, assists, and trains employees as necessary. Participates in the selection of new employees and makes recommendations regarding the hiring, discipline, transfer, and termination of employees.
- Supports teachers who facilitate student clubs.
This position reports to the Principal.
