About B’nai Shalom of Olney: B’nai Shalom of Olney (BSO) is a multi-generational community committed to making Judaism accessible, inclusive, and relevant within north-central Montgomery County, Maryland. As a community hub, BSO hosts religious services, holiday events, social groups, and educational programs. Home to 270 families, an Early Childhood School, and 85 Religious School students, our congregation is deeply committed to vibrant and meaningful Jewish education and youth engagement. Our K-10 educational program, Jewish Learning at B’nai Shalom (J-LAB), emphasizes experiential, hands-on learning to foster a strong foundation in Jewish traditions and teachings. Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and innovative Director of Religious School Education and Youth Engagement to lead and enhance J-LAB and supplemental social programming. This multifaceted role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on our community’s youth.

Key Responsibilities:

Educational Leadership

  • Enhance Jewish educational curriculum and Hebrew enrichment initiatives within J-LAB.
  • Establish educational goals and oversee strategic curriculum development.
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate teachers.
  • Boost parent engagement through effective communication and transparent policies.

Youth and Family Programming

  • Lead engaging youth and family programs, including Shabbat and holiday events.
  • Develop enriching High Holy Day youth experiences.
  • Work closely with professional staff and community leaders to foster a vibrant Jewish learning environment.
  • Recruits, hires, and works in partnership with youth advisors (Bonim, Machar, and BSO Youth)
  • Promote Jewish values, traditions, and culture through innovative programming.

Administrative Duties

  • Oversee educational administration, including budgeting and staff management.
  • Utilize strong organizational and technological skills to manage and promote programs effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s (preferred) degree in education, Jewish education, Jewish studies, or a related field, or at least five years of experience in a religious school setting.
  • Strong Jewish identity with expertise in Hebrew, Tefillah, and Judaica.
  • Strong managerial and supervisory experience.
  • Experience in educational administration, including budgeting and HR management.
  • Proven ability to create and oversee engaging Judaic curricula. Ability to accommodate and embrace diverse learning styles.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Starting Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 annually based upon education, experience, and qualifications.
  • Full-time position with benefits.
