Congregation Beth El, a vibrant Conservative congregation, seeks an engaging and knowledgeable leaders to conduct meaningful and interactive Family High Holiday Services for families with children in grades K-2. These services are designed for families with young children, providing an age-appropriate, participatory experience that fosters spiritual connection, learning, and joy during Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.  The services are held on both days of Rosh Hashanah and on Yom Kippur.  This is the first of two job descriptions for High Holiday service leaders, as we are looking for one leader for a service geared towards families with children in grades K-2, and a second leader for a service geared towards families with children in grades 3-5.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead dynamic and spiritually enriching Family High Holiday Services, incorporating traditional prayers, music, and storytelling. 
  • Create a warm, inclusive environment that encourages participation from children and parents alike.
  • Deliver engaging explanations of the High Holiday themes, prayers, and Torah readings in an accessible and meaningful way.
  • Integrate music, movement, and interactive elements to keep young attendees engaged.
  • Collaborate with synagogue clergy and staff to align the service with the congregation’s values and traditions.
  • Prepare and distribute any necessary materials, such as song sheets, prayer booklets, or activity guides.

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of Jewish liturgy, High Holiday prayers, and Conservative movement traditions.
  • Experience leading engaging and interactive services, especially for young children and families.
  • Musical ability (although instruments will not be used in the service)
  • Excellent public speaking and storytelling skills.
  • Warm, approachable presence with the ability to connect with children and families.
  • Prior experience in Jewish education, clergy work, or community leadership is a plus.

Compensation:

Competitive stipend based on experience.
