Full-Time Job Opportunity (32 hr per week):  

SHIFRA (In Shifra’s Arms, Inc) is seeking a new SHIFRA Crisis Pregnancy and Postpartum Counselor to work with Jewish women across the United States. This is a full-time remote position with four weeks paid vacation. Our staff love working for our mission-driven, extraordinary team.  

 

This position has some flexible hours, but it does require being on-call some evenings. 

 

About SHIFRA  

SHIFRA (In Shifra’s Arms) is a unique Jewish support network nurturing Jewish women through unplanned/unwanted pregnancy crises. Our layers of emotional, financial and social support help mothers to bond with their babies and make termination feel unnecessary. 

 

SHIFRA’s vision is to save Jewish lives by empowering Jewish mothers.  

 

In this position, the SHIFRA Counselor uses her therapeutic skills to support Jewish women across the United States through unplanned pregnancy crises until the baby’s first birthday.  

Counselor provides sensitive post-miscarriage or abortion follow-up is provided if needed.   

 

The SHIFRA Counselor must be comfortable working with women from across the Jewish spectrum- secular to Orthodox.  

 

The SHIFRA Counselor will receive in-house training as well as certifications from Post-Partum International and Nurtured Heart Approach.  

 

The SHIFRA Counselor works on several primary goals with the clients: 

 

  1. Preparing for and adjusting to motherhood, including working on attachment and postpartum bonding as needed; 
  1. Increasing self-care practices and improving resilience/ confidence through practical problem-solving;  
  1. Increasing the quality of other relationships (including with their partner/other children) and expanding their support network. 
  1. Problem solving in conjunction with our SHIFRA Client Advocate to identify needs and financial, social and material resources to meet those needs.  

 

Position Requirements: 

  • Master’s in Clinical Social Work or equivalent 
  • 5+ years counseling Jewish women and families across the Jewish religious spectrum 
  • Licensed LCSW or LCPC preferred 

 

Highly Valued Experience:  

  • Pregnancy & parenting wisdom from direct motherhood experiences/familiarity with raising families with >3 kids 
  • Jewish domestic abuse counseling 
  • Perinatal mental health 
  • Parenting coaching 
  • Attachment-focused 
  • Trauma-lens
