JOB DESCRIPTION: DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATE
Shalom Institute seeks a dynamic Development Associate to join our team to support development and volunteer engagement efforts. The Development Associate will work in partnership with the Development Manager and CEO to elevate the development program, while creating a positive culture of philanthropy and engagement within the Shalom Institute and broader community.

Shalom Institute is a beloved and well-respected provider and partner to other communal entities, and a member of the Jewish Community Centers of North America and accredited by the American Camp Association. We have enjoyed steady growth and are at an exciting moment as we are in the middle of the most significant capital campaign in our history and the accompanying growth of all facets of our operations. The Development Associate is a role model and is expected to behave in a positive and professional manner and demonstrate professionalism and accountability. He/she/they will take initiative to analyze and solve problems, treat others with courtesy and respect, respond to customer needs, and maintain integrity and confidentiality. This is a full-time exempt position supervised directly by the Development Manager.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Annual Campaign
• Manage Annual Campaign and seasonal fundraising campaigns in partnership with the Development Manager and CEO. This includes creating materials (graphics, videos, and social media assets) for social media, e-mail, and direct mail appeals.
• Serve as Annual Campaign stewardship manager, ensuring that all donors are thanked in a timely manner and receive follow-up correspondence from their steward.
• Cultivate and steward a portfolio of annual campaign donors and prospects.
• Undertake direct solicitations via in person, online, and phone interactions.
• Assist Development Manager in identifying potential major donors.
• Prepare customized briefing and solicitation materials for donors and prospects.
• Assist in design and implementation of a development plan to meet annual
fundraising goals, including a development calendar and action plans.
• Collaborate with Development Manager and Marketing Manager on targeted marketing communications to donors and prospects, including, personalized e-mails, impact reports, newsletters, gratitude calls, and proposals.
• Review and maintain the website donation page ensuring that information is up to date, relevant, and accurate.

Alumni Engagement
• Recruit and steward Alumni Committee members.
• Oversee Alumni database and make updates as needed.
• Engage alumni through targeted communication and events.
• Oversee quarterly Alumni newsletter.
• Coordinate alumni events with program team.

Capital Campaign
Provide administrative, data, communications, research and donor relation support as needed.

Event Coordination
• Help plan and organize selected events (donor appreciation, fundraisers, etc.).
• Promote events in collaboration with marketing and program departments.
• Event coordination and set-up including but not limited to vendor correspondence, décor, and day-of logistics.
• Provide administrative support with invitations, rsvp lists, planning and day-of logistics, follow up, donation entry, tracking, evaluation, and reporting.

Database Management

  • In coordination with team members, help reconcile monthly donor reports and preparation of board and committee materials.
  • Actively manage database to track campaigns, appeals, and other donations.
  • Update constituent information as received.
  • Build and run daily, weekly, monthly reports, as needed.
  • Participate in database online training and webinars.
  • Seek ways to improve tracking and reporting of both constituents and donations.

Additional Duties
• Participate in Development Team, Committee, and Board meetings, taking notes as needed.
• Participate in staff meetings, retreats, and activities.

Requirements & Skills

  • 2+ years of related fundraising professional experience, preferably in a non-profit organization.
  • 2+ years’ experience in fundraising solicitations, cultivation and stewardship
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent computer/database skills, willingness to adapt to new technologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to be a team player and help in all areas of the organization as needed which includes but is not limited to helping with Camp JCA Shalom, Camp Gesher, Shemesh Farms and organization-wide events.
  • Superior organizational skills with the ability to manage tasks, prioritize multiple assignments, execute work in an efficient and timely manner, and track and manage multiple work streams.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and accountability.
  • Passion for learning and to grow professionally through supervision and mentorship.
  • Positive, energetic, kind and friendly attitude, with a sense of humor, along with a willingness to help colleagues and contribute toward collective success.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
This position works a typical Mon-Fri, 9 am - 5 pm schedule, with weekends and evenings as needed. Shalom Institute’s year-round office is in Malibu on-site at Shalom Institute and there will be office time required onsite. A virtual work schedule from home will be negotiated with the Development Manager. While performing regular duties, you will be required to sit, stand, reach, walk, or kneel, and to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Compensation
This is a full-time exempt position with a salary range of $66,560-$77,500, commensurate with experience. The Benefits package includes health and dental insurance, time off for Jewish and secular holidays, program discounts, vacation time, and a defined contribution plan after one year of working.
