Assistant Dean, Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies, Recruitment and Admissions Advisor

Status: Full-time/Exempt

Supervisor: Deans of the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies

Start Date: July 1, 2025

Total Compensation Package: $132,000

 

General Summary:

This position serves as one of the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies’ primary representatives and program enthusiasts to prospective students and applicants as they research and evaluate Jewish leadership and rabbinic ordination programs, as well as engaging in community building, student life, and retention with current Ziegler students. Reporting to the Ziegler Deans (with the Senior Dean as Supervisor), this position builds, maintains, and nurtures relationships with prospective students through the admissions funnel with the goal of meeting or exceeding enrollment goals for each academic year. Through in-person and virtual counseling, email and texting communication, telephone calls, and recruitment events, this person serves applicants by communicating the features, values, and benefits of a Ziegler degree. This position also serves as needed as a member of assigned Admissions Committees and participates in the evaluation of applications.

 

Duties and Responsibilities - Ziegler Recruitment:

  • Develop a recruitment plan that will be utilized to reach target goals, in coordination with the Deans; create and build relationships with qualified applicants to the Ziegler School, maintaining ongoing contact from inquiry to matriculation to meet admissions goals.
  • Actively traveling to (or virtually connecting with) schools, college organizations (national and local), camps, and other community organizations to meet with prospective students and potential recruitment partners and to conduct presentations about admission and application requirements and processes.
  • Maintain an assigned portfolio of contacts and applicants, using electronic databases, in order to adequately and efficiently build and maintain values-based counseling relationships with prospective students and move them through the admissions funnel to reach goals.
  • In coordination with AJU’s Communications Team, develop strategies to reach new audiences and implement a marketing campaign for targeted outreach.
  • In collaboration with the Deans and AJU’s Communications Team, organize and conduct webinars and other virtual and in-person recruitment events for Ziegler, provide campus tours to prospective students and constituents.
  • Contribute to interdepartmental initiatives to improve AJU and Ziegler’s applicant and student experience and assist in reaching AJU’s shared headcount goals (including with Academic Affairs and the Registrar).
  • Maintain records and create reports as needed on inquiries, applications, and student enrollment
  • Participate in preparing the prospects’ materials for the interview committee and sitting on those committees as a member.

 

Duties and Responsibilities - Admissions Advisor:

  • Clearly understand and articulate mission, vision, and reality of the Ziegler School and Conservative Judaism, the rabbinate as a career, the place of Israel in Jewish identity, and the application requirements and processes for Ziegler.
  • Counsel prospective students regularly, both in person and electronically, proactively contacting and promptly communicating with a high volume of telephone, Zoom, email, texting, webinar, and in-person contacts about the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies in an accurate, engaging, and respectful manner.
  • Provide information and general advising to prospective students when appropriate, such as class schedules, academic programs of study, support services, career resources, financial assistance, student life.
  • Serve as an ambassador for prospective students by understanding and communicating available and appropriate scholarship, grant, and loan opportunities for incoming students.

 

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage updates on ZSRS/AJU websites and social media sites –both curricular, content, layout, pictures, and faculty websites. Create content for posting and creating strategy to increase traffic and followers.
  • Daily Minyan and Communal Events
    • Supervise and attend minyan regularly and supervise student participation in daily minyan and working with students on proficiency for minyan.
    • Community Lunches: organizing, selecting topics (when appropriate), coordinating menus to accommodate diet and allergy needs.
    • Assist in planning school activities – Special days of learning, Holiday programming, orientation, as assigned by Dean and Associate Dean
  • Approach sensitive issues in a thoughtful, caring, professional, and confidential manner. Confidentiality is essential to this position, as provided by law.
  • Supervise the Electronic Weekly Newsletter, editing and culling information to keep the Ziegler community apprised of upcoming events and opportunities.
  • Contribute to the vitality and warmth of the Ziegler School community and help in retaining current Ziegler students through to ordination.
  • Full partner with the other Deans in strategizing, advance planning, anticipation of needs and challenges, and advancing the vision of the School.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean.

 

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Rabbinic Ordination and bachelor’s degree preferred from an accredited institution, or an individual who can recruit energetically and understands the Conservative rabbinate and rabbinical education, plus a minimum of one year of related professional experience.
  • Must understand Jewish leadership and education in general, and the rabbinate in particular.
  • Written and oral communication and listening skills are required with the ability to effectively listen and communicate with culturally and ethnically diverse
  • Knowledge of the recruitment process and organizational skills are
  • Must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, creative, able to multitask, and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Interpersonal and presentation
  • Social Media competence.

  • Previous experience in an educational
  • Travel is required; as well as working occasional evenings and
  • Must possess a valid driver's
