Temple Sinai of Bergen County is a thriving Reform congregation located in Tenafly, NJ, only seven miles from Manhattan. Our diverse membership comes from all across Bergen County. We welcome individuals and families from all backgrounds who seek an invigorating Jewish experience.

If you have a passion for member experience and community engagement, are team-oriented, have strong project management skills, and thrive working across a broad range of constituencies, we want to hear from you. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to create a systematic and intentional approach to identify and proactively outreach to disengaged and non-engaged congregants. You’ll also enhance Temple Sinai’s current membership program coordinate a volunteer membership committee to recruit and welcome new members to the Temple.

The Assistant Director is an at-will, full-time, exempt employee of the congregation. S/he/they reports to the Executive Director. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Help to foster a relational culture that builds community, inspires a sense of belonging, and deepens connections among Temple Sinai members

  • Work collaboratively with clergy, senior staff, and lay leaders to create pathways for current and new members to make meaningful, lifelong connections with and within the Temple Sinai community.
  • Have a presence at Shabbat evening and holiday services to welcome and greet congregants, and to be available to address membership inquiries.
  • Work with Executive Director and Clergy to execute social, worship, educational and Temple-wide programs
  • Responsible Temple communications channels, including emails, flyers, social media and marketing

  • Oversee marketing processes, including staffing Marketing Committee; update website regularly
  • Manage all social media

  • Liaison for adult social programming and social action/justice programming

  • Create and manage all event registration pages and event rsvps

  • Fundraising event support as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and 5+ years of experience working with membership-based organizations
  • Knowledge of and support for Reform Jewish principles and practices
  • Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office 365, spreadsheets, and data base management. CRM knowledge a plus, particularly ShulCloud
  • Knowledge of social media, especially creating social media messaging & marketing to drive engagement & build community, and marketing/outreach/sales experience preferred. Proficiency in Canva a plus.
  • Available for regular night and weekend Temple services, projects, and programs, including on High Holy Days, Shabbat, teen programs and other Jewish holidays.
  • Able to reinforce our warm, friendly, and comfortable environment by interacting and communicating well with congregants, staff and others, both in person and via phone

 

As in any small office, there will be duties shared with co-workers. Cross-training in many other office tasks is expected. Please note: This position is required to work on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.  Temple Sinai members will not be considered for this position.
