About Lehrhaus

Lehrhaus is an award-winning non-profit Jewish tavern and house of learning. Our mission is to make Jewish life more joyful and meaningful through excellent hospitality and Jewish education. We create vibrant Jewish public spaces of excellence where the beauty and depth of Jewish learning are accessible to all. We aim to craft a pride-filled vision of Jewish life that is integrated into every element of design, making it an object of desire.

About the Role

Learning Guides are essential to Lehrhaus, seamlessly connecting the tavern with the house of learning. In this role, you will welcome members, process and serve light refreshments, provide comprehensive information about Lehrhaus, facilitate one-on-one learning experiences, and contribute to the development of our learning programs. Above all, you will help maintain the warm, friendly, and inclusive environment that defines Lehrhaus.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the hospitality industry and a background in Jewish learning, Jewish education, or informal education.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities fall into two main areas, hosting, and guiding. These responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Hosting:

  • Set up for daily operations and manage transitions from day use to evening service or closing.

  • Maintain the space, including the self-service station (coffee, tea, snacks, water).

  • Keep the area tidy and organized.

  • Greet guests, facilitate the sign-in/sign-up process, and act as the main point of contact during daytime hours.

  • Respond to House of Learning-related emails and inquiries.

  • Serve as host/teacher liaison for evening classes

Guiding:

  • Manage learning materials, including the library, iPads, and printouts.

  • Facilitate one-on-one learning opportunities with members.

  • Model Jewish learning practices, with a focus on hevruta (partner) learning.

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Learning and the House of Learning team to develop and enhance learning opportunities.

Ideal Candidate

  • Passionate Learner: Enthusiastic about acquiring and sharing Jewish knowledge. Eager to explore new topics and engage with diverse perspectives.

  • Excellent Communicator: Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to convey information clearly and listen actively.

  • Adaptable: Capable of juggling various responsibilities and switching tasks as needed throughout the day.

  • Tech-Savvy: Comfortable with tools such as Google Drive, Spreadsheets, Canva, and Gmail, or willing to learn quickly.

  • Hospitality-Focused: Understands the importance of creating a welcoming and warm environment. As the first point of contact for many, the Learning Guide must exemplify excellent customer service.
