The Position

The Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI) is seeking a Senior Finance & Accounting Manager to work in its NYC headquarters.  Reporting to the Comptroller, the position holds a key role in the accounting, finance and operational management of the organization. The role is important and visible in the structure of the organization and works closely with Agency’s international offices in Israel and other places. This is a Hybrid work opportunity; 3 days in-office, 2 days remote. JAFI is a 501(c)3.

Position Responsibilities

  1. Oversees the financial operations for all Jewish Agency companies, with an emphasis upon revenue from donors and foundations.
  2. Tracking day-to-day bank transactions, keeping tabs on balances and replenishing accounts as needed. Banking responsibilities include updating and analyzing all transactions and withdrawals, insuring the recording of each.
  3. Properly identifies all receivables for all companies & communicates with the appropriate departments to maintain donor information such as customer numbers, descriptions and budget lines. Ensures that all information is processed in company systems.
  4. Works closely with finance and senior fundraising staff in the United States and Israel, to ensure proper tracking of donations and receivables.
  5. Plays a key role in the management of company annual audits.
  6. Acts as the point person with banks and verifies payments. Manages technical issues.
  7. Creates entries in the general ledger for all accounts. Transactions include but are not limited to:
    • Inter-account transfers
    • bank fees
    • Donation fees (when receiving funds from PayPal and other processors)
    • Journal entries
    • Entering quarterly transactions for three brokerage accounts
  8. Prepares all transfers of funds for programming at the request of the CFO and Comptroller.
  9. Serves as back-up to the Comptroller, creating payments as well as being an acting signatory on all bank accounts.
  10. Processes donation receipts in systems for international donors and acts as a point of contact to offices around the world.
  11. Assists company program services with billing summer camps and programs.
  12. Serves as point person for our bookkeeping office and staff, based in Europe.
  13. Diligently reviews each account to complete monthly bank reconciliations.
  14. Processes pension reports.
  15. Responsible for processing rent income. Reviews leases as needed.
  16. Processing quarterly reports.
  17. Assists finance staff in managing credit card and payment processes.
  18. Assists all departments with any finance-related issues.
  19. Possible occasional travel.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of non-profit accounting and finance experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree is required, with a strong preference for specialties in finance or accounting, or a related field.
  • Strong technical skills including ERP, Excel, and Salesforce.
  • A knowledge of Israeli business practices and Hebrew language are huge pluses.
  • A willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities is a must.
