Responsibilities:

The Finance Manager is responsible for maintaining Congregation Beth Israel’s books in compliance with

Generally Accepted Account Practices (GAAP) and the synagogue’s internal policies and practices and

providing financial reports to the Executive Director, VP of Finance/Finance Committee, and Endowment

Chair/Endowment Committee.

Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable

  • Manage and enter all accounts payables and process payments on a regular basis.
  • Manage, enter, and process all receivables and payments (dues, donations, facility rentals, etc.) from

members, tenants, etc. and perform bank deposits.

  • Manage collections; Distribute statements for dues, arrange payment plans, and contact congregants

as needed.

Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Manage all General Ledger accounts, charge types, donations, members in QuickBooks and Shul Cloud
  • Reconcile cash, investment, and balance sheet accounts monthly
  • Prepare month-end and year-end journal entries and other closing adjustments
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for Executive Director and Finance Committee
  • Advise the VP of Finance and the Executive Director on financial matters that require attention.

Budget

  • Oversee the implementation of the budget in collaboration with the VP of Finance and the Executive

Director, including oversight of income and expenses.

  • Prepare budgets for grant applications

Endowment

  • Manage and oversee all transfers and reconciliations for multiple restricted and unrestricted

endowment accounts.

  • Perform all Quick Books journal entries for restricted and unrestricted endowment and monthly fund

transfers.

Compliance and Annual Review

  • Perform and submit Workman’s Comp audits yearly.
  • Liaise with external accountant to prepare annual financial statements, providing all needed

information to the accountant.

  • Follow and improve internal controls

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16 – 20 per week
