The Hewlett-East Rockaway Jewish Centre (HERJC)  is a vibrant, active and welcoming Conservative congregation on the South Shore of Long island.  We are strongly committed to celebrating all facets of our tradition, and are known for the high level of participation by our members in all the spiritual, educational, cultural and social aspects of the Jewish experience.

We are looking for an energetic, creative, fun, independent person who loves working with children and teens to join our dynamic staff team.

This is a part-time position.  The majority of the work will take place on Sundays with much preparation done remotely.  Specific schedule TBD.

Responsibilities

  1. Develop a plan to revitalize youth program for elementary through high school age participants
  2. Facilitate all facets of youth programming
  3. Design programming that actively recruits new and prospective families
  4. Organize and implement programming for youth of various ages
  5. Assist or coordinate events in general and specifically around holidays
  6. Mentor and develop teen leadership, particularly among the older teens
  7. Publicize events through multiple channels 
  8. Write regular emails outlining programming for the week and upcoming events
  9. Develop and maintain an annual, quarterly and monthly calendar of events
  10. Serve as staff lead for congregational family programs with a large youth presence such as themed Shabbat dinners, young family dinners, and other special programs (e.g. Purim, Haunted Shabbat)
  11. Oversee registration process and dues collection
  12. Share before and after programming on social media
  13. Coordinate with HERJC clergy to oversee Holiday youth programs with an eye toward creating model services or holiday-related educational programming on Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Passover and Shavuot
  14. Attend Youth Committee meetings 
  15. Attend staff meetings when possible

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children in informal setting (Designing and implementing programs is preferred)
  • Detail-oriented and organized; able to plan and execute the HERJC/Youth Department mission and programming
  • Knowledgeable of Jewish holidays, customs and traditions
  • Creative
  • Comfort reaching out to new people
  • Team player who collaborates well with others
  • Excellent organizational and computer skills, social media, skills and Tech savvy
  • Able to multitask
