About the Position:
Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School seeks a creative, collaborative, dynamic educator to be the Chair of our Math department and join our outstanding upper school math faculty. The successful candidate will teach 2-3 daily math classes in our Upper School Program (grades 5-8) and weekly enrichment classes in our lower school (TK-4). Candidates should be knowledgeable of Common Core Math Standards, familiar with Singapore Math, and experienced in teaching advanced math classes at the middle school level such as algebra and geometry. The successful candidate will work closely with the other members of the math team to provide high quality, engaging, standards-based math instruction. The successful candidate will also work closely with the lower school general studies faculty to ensure that all students develop creative problem solving skills in mathematics and are appropriately challenged to meet their potential.
In addition, the Math Chair will help Hausner develop a plan for the future of math instruction at Hausner, lead math curriculum review and adoption efforts, and help establish a Mathematics Center for Excellence.

Responsibilities Include:
- Lead Hausner’s math instructional team.
- In collaboration with the academic leadership team, continue to build and update the mathematics program at Hausner TK-8 to ensure that Hausner students receive outstanding, individualized math instruction.
- Examine current assessment data and develop additional assessments to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the Hausner mathematics program.
- Provide professional development support to all math and general studies teachers on a regular basis.
- Design and implement challenging, engaging math lessons in 2-3 upper school (grades 5-8) math courses.
- Attend and actively participate in all faculty meetings.
- Participate in special school events including, but not limited to, Open House, Back to School Night, STEM Fair, special student performances. Attendance at other community/school events is encouraged.
- Accompany students on annual overnight field trip.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required Experience/Education:
- Four-year degree from an accredited college or university,
- Valid teacher credential and/or previous middle school and/or high school teaching experience preferred.
- Undergraduate degree or at least 24 semester hours, in mathematics. Masters degree in a related field preferred.
- Excellent classroom management skills.
Compensation:
- Competitive salary, $80,000-120,000 dependent on experience.
