Camp Ramah in the Poconos: Camper Care Coordinator
Each year, Camp Ramah in the Poconos offers over 500 children and 250 adults transformative experiences, blending vibrant Jewish life with a fun and meaningful summer. ROLE SUMMARY
The Camper Care Coordinator is a part-time year-round professional(7-15 hours a week, depending on the time of year, full-time in the summer) that will add to our culture of high-level care of our camp community. This role shares responsibility for many aspects of community care including camper intakes, family communication throughout the year to gather information and create plans for success, adding a child development lens to conversations about programming and training, assisting in assembly and training of summer camper care team, and supporting our youth safeguarding practices.
We are seeking a passionate, collaborative professional with a background in mental health/education/inclusion work as well as a commitment to building year-round and lifelong interpersonal relationships and holistic Jewish community that are fundamental to the work of Camp Ramah in the Poconos. This position will work under the supervision, and in direct collaboration with, the camp director.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Year-round communication and partnership with families, including pre/post summer
- Identify and connect with mental health/ other professionals connected with campers, to help support camper success
- Revise and review summer evaluations; create next steps and follow up plans
- Review and update intake forms as well as other relevant forms; create documentation to share with Yoatzim; facilitate summer special concerns meetings
- Work in conjunction with Engagement and Enrollment coordinator for family communication
- Work in conjunction with Tikvah Director regarding families who are identified as requiring supplemental support
- Work with special diets coordinator to support families regarding allergy/special dietary needs
- Collaborate with Director on bunking process
- Supervise summer Yoatzim; includes serving as initial point of contact for elevated camper care concerns; running bi-weekly camper care meetings; coordinating summer calendaring systems
- Serve as Yoetz/et as needed in summer
REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Passion and excitement about Jewish summer camping; prior camp experience preferred
- Academic degree in social work, psychology, special education, or related field (Masters preferred)
- 3+ years of experience in mental health, inclusion/special needs, Jewish education, and/or summer camp leadership
- Commitment to working with shared leadership and in cross-functional teams
- Ability to build trusting and lasting relationships with campers, camper parents, staff, professional colleagues, lay leaders, and other partners
- Knowledge of Jewish culture, history, and values; familiarity with Hebrew is preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- During the year: occasional travel to Philadelphia (if not local) as well as occasional work on nights and weekends
- During the summer: Residency of approximately 9 weeks at our overnight campus in Lakewood, PA
COMPENSATION:
The salary for this position ranges from $15,000 - $18,000 commensurate with experience. Tuition discounts for camper-aged children are offered as well as travel reimbursement.
