Synagogue Operations Manager (Part Time)
Fort Tryon Jewish Center (FTJC) in Washington Heights, NYC, is seeking an accountable and detail-oriented person with the skills and motivation to assist in the day-to-day operations of our synagogue community. FTJC is an independent traditional egalitarian congregation of about 150 households and growing, with a vibrant community of volunteers. (For more about us, see www.ftjc.org)
This position will report directly to the Rabbi, while liaising with several key volunteer leaders, to help handle communications, membership, record keeping, finance, prayer services, programming, and more.
The position is an on-site, in-person role, especially on Fridays, with the possibility to handle some work remotely when necessary. It is unlikely that there will be any duties on Shabbat or holidays, although Sundays and the day before a holiday begins may occasionally be required, along with occasional attendance at weeknight virtual committee meetings to liaise with volunteers.
Qualifications:
- Excellent communication and relational skills for working with fellow staff, volunteer leaders, and external partners
- Excellent organizational skills and accurate attention to detail
- Able to keep up with own weekly and monthly work plan
- Able to draft communications emails
- Able to pick up technology easily
- Able to handle basic bookkeeping functions such as accounts payable and receivable, reconciling expenses with budget, etc.
- Able to move portable furniture and lift boxes, in order to set up for services and programs and to handle deliveries of food and supplies
- Familiarity with Google Drive / Google Suite
- Familiarity with Facebook Groups and social media posting
Requirements:
- 1-3+ years of experience working in a professional environment
- Experience using ShulCloud or similar CRM database
- Experience using QuickBooks or similar bookkeeping software
- Familiarity with the Jewish holiday calendar and congregational life
Compensation: $25,000 per year
Hours: Half time, approximately 20 hours per week on average
Start date: around May 15, 2025, negotiable
