Position Summary:

The Minneapolis NCSY/JSU Assistant Director plays a pivotal role in inspiring Jewish pride and identity among local teens through dynamic programming, educational initiatives, and meaningful relationships. Reporting to the Director and working closely with regional leadership for support, the Assistant Director organizes and runs JSU clubs in Minneapolis-area public high schools, plans local and regional events, and recruits for NCSY’s impactful programs.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

JSU Chapter Activities

  • Planning and organizing weekly JSU clubs to inspire Jewish pride and identity in Minneapolis-area public high schools.
  • Work with local teacher sponsors and teens to ensure the club’s sustainability.
  • Arrange schedules with the schools and the teens.
  • Run bi-weekly or monthly JSU clubs.
  • Advertise and recruit for clubs to the students.
  • Plan educational materials, programs, and activities for JSU clubs.
  • Pick up food, beverages, and other refreshments for JSU club meetings.
  • Develop relationships with JSU participants:
    • Expose teens to Jewish life outside their club time.
    • Promote and recruit teens for additional programs (e.g., Shabbat Experiences, Learn n Earn, Latte n Learn, Holiday programs, Relief Mission Trips, Leadership conferences, and Regional Shabbatons).
  • Plan and attend regular out-of-club programming to increase teen participation.
  • Plan and help organize 2-4 local Shabbatons throughout the year.

Relationship Building

  • Keep in touch with teens via phone, text, email, or social media.
  • Maintain positive relationships with parents.
  • Cultivate relationships with educational, rabbinical, and lay leadership in the community.
  • Host teens for Shabbos lunch regularly.
  • Maintain a shared list of teens and parents for outgoing communications with the director.

General Chapter Maintenance

  • Take attendance at all clubs and programs and then enter data into Iceburg.
  • Meet with the Director weekly basis.

Financial Management

  • Ensure all major costs and expenses are approved by the Director before making purchases.
  • Save receipts and enter them into Expensify, categorizing them appropriately.

NCSY Summer

  • Stay informed about all NCSY and JSU summer programs.
  • Recruit teens for the summer programs by meeting with parents and hosting open houses.
  • Communicate with the NCSY Summer team regarding the needs of Minneapolis teens and parents.

Fundraising

  • Assist the Minneapolis Director in local fundraising efforts, including the End of Year event and the Day of Giving campaign.

Professional Development

  • Attend weekly Regional Zoom meetings.
  • Attend National and Regional Staff conferences.

Regional Programming

  • Recruit for and attend 3-4 Regional Shabbatons per year.
  • Recruit for and attend a Relief Mission trip.

Junior NCSY Programming

  • Run monthly social programming for 5th-8th graders:
    • Plan, recruit for, and attend all events.
  • Recruit for and attend the annual Regional Junior Shabbaton.

 

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is between $65,000 and $80,000, commensurate with experience.
