Jewish National Fund-USA seeks a Director of Grants & Foundations and Jewish National Fund-USA Boruchin Center. This role oversees both our Grants and Foundations arm as well as our Boruchin Center. This role is based out of Jewish National Fund-USA's New York City office.

 

Grants and Foundations Overview:

Foundation Grants make up roughly 12% of Jewish National Fund – USA's total annual campaign revenue. The Director of Grants & Foundations is responsible for helping regional fundraisers to secure annual foundation grants as well as to broaden the scope of our foundational relationships. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Grants & Foundations will work closely with the major gifts team, regional fundraisers ,lay leadership JNF-USA Israel staff and affiliates, to identify and cultivate Foundation prospects as well as to strategize and compose grant applications and reports.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Management: Professional management of the national effort to secure foundation gifts working with fundraising professional, the National Grants and Foundations Chair, and lay leadership.
  • Strategic Planning and Goal Setting: Work with the Chief Operating Officer and other senior leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for increasing foundation grant revenue, including setting annual goals, tracking progress, and adjusting strategies as needed to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Training and Support for Regional Fundraisers: Provide training and ongoing support to regional fundraisers and lay leadership in prospect research and foundation relationship management to enhance their ability to secure foundation grants.
  • Relationship Building: Establish and nurture ongoing relationships with foundation representatives through regular communication, site visit planning, and personalized updates to ensure sustained support and increased funding opportunities.
  • Information and Data Collection: Gather project information, photos, personal stories, budgets and other related details from JNF-USA's project directors and affiliates to use in grant applications and reports.
  • Research and Development: Conduct prospect research using Salesforce, iWave, Foundation Center's online directory, and other sources to continue building capacity for growth.
  • Grant Compliance and Reporting: Collaborate with regional fundraisers and affiliates to monitor and ensure compliance with all foundation grant requirements, including timely submission of progress reports, financial statements, and other necessary documentation to maintain transparency and accountability.

 

JNF-USA Boruchin Center Overview:

The JNF-USA Boruchin Center, named in honor of the late John and Dora Boruchin, is a grant-making arm of JNF-USA focused on strengthening lifelong bonds between all Americans—especially Jewish American teens—and the land and people of Israel. The Center funds programs that foster these connections and is administered by a committee of JNF-USA national lay leaders.

 

The Director of Grants & Foundations will oversee the operations of the Boruchin Center, reporting to and working collaboratively with the Chief Operating Officer. The Director will work closely with JNF-USA lay leadership and professional stakeholders to manage the grant-making process and ensure alignment with the strategic goals of JNF-USA.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Grant-Making Process: Manage all aspects of the Boruchin Center's grant-making operations, ensuring efficiency and adherence to established procedures.
  • Request for Proposals (RFP): Revisit and update the Request for Proposals annually, ensuring timely advertisement and outreach to potential applicants.
  • Webpage Management: Update the JNF-USA Boruchin Center webpage to reflect current goals, grantees, and processes, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is available to the public.
  • Applicant Engagement: Engage with potential applicants to ensure their proposals align with the goals and mission of the JNF-USA Boruchin Center.
  • Application Review: Conduct thorough reviews of grant applications, assessing their alignment with strategic objectives and potential impact.
  • Advisory Role: Serve as a key adviser to voting committee members, providing insights and recommendations based on application reviews and stakeholder input.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Ensure that grantees meet all stipulations outlined in their grant agreements, maintaining oversight of project progress and outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Gather and incorporate feedback from JNF-USA professionals and other stakeholders regarding the potential and actual impact of grantees and potential grantees.
  • Draft Grantee Agreements: Prepare detailed and comprehensive grantee agreements, outlining expectations, deliverables, and compliance requirements.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the strategic planning process for the Boruchin Center, helping to set goals and track progress to maximize the impact of funded programs.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business administration, communications, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in grant management, foundation relations, or nonprofit fundraising.
  • Proven track record of successfully securing foundation gifts and managing grant portfolios.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communicator with strong writing and presentation skills.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Innovative thinker with the ability to develop creative solutions to challenges
  • Proficient in gathering and synthesizing project information and data Collection
  • Strong research skills and experience using prospect tools within a database is preferred

Compensation:

$80,000-$130,000

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role.
