Job Details:
- Location: The position is a combination of remote and in-person work. The applicant must be able to commute to the New York Tri-State area on a weekly basis for meetings and events. The best candidate will be comfortable working from home most days per week with an expectation to meet with other staff or clients in person several times per month or more.

Role Summary:
Eshel seeks a Program Director to grow its NYC programming offerings so that LGBTQ+ Orthodox+ Jews can build a supportive community base. Eshel knows that community is strengthened by meaningful connections through text studies, shabbat dinners, mental health education, and engaging group activities. Eshel’s community is a diverse group of LGBTQ+ Orthodox+ adults, parents of LGBTQ+ children, and Jewish communal leaders. The right candidate will be able to use these tools in coordination with Eshel’s other core initiatives to further Eshel’s mission. While more than half of Eshel’s programming takes place in NY, the role will also include remotely overseeing programming in other localities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee local programs and events including managing logistics and facilitation
- Be an active partner together with the staff in developing a programming plan that meets our strategic growth plan; including the social, communal, and mental health needs of Eshel’s constituency
- Manage volunteer event coordinators and facilitators (in NYC and nationally)
- Supervise local New York program staff
Preferred Areas of Expertise:
- Educational background in counseling or social work - MSW, BSW, MFC or equivalent education for example
- Minimum of 2-4 years relevant work experience in a client-facing programming role
- At least 2 years of experience in direct supervision or management role preferred; a history of successfully growing strategic programming a plus
- Commitment to the mission, philosophy, and values of Eshel and the ability to articulate the organization’s needs, opportunities, and aspirations with clarity and enthusiasm
- Experience in program and event planning and management
- Experience with group facilitation
- Experience in non-profit setting preferred
- Familiarity with mental health issues/education/resources preferred
- Deep familiarity with the Orthodox Jewish community, the LGBTQ+ community, and their intersection
- Familiarity with New York Jewish communities and resources
- Ability to be a systems-oriented leader: Analytical, organized, proactive, detail-oriented with strong ability to prioritize
- Ability to work occasional nights and weekends for special events
- Experience with WordPress and HubSpot or another CRM and/or Asana a plus
Salary and Benefits:
This is a full time, exempt position (35-40 hours per week) with a starting salary of $65,000. Eshel offers Discretionary Time Off and employees are encouraged to take at least 3-5 weeks off per year. Eshel also offers PTO for most major Jewish Holidays, most national holidays, and early closure on Fridays during parts of the year (for Shabbat), parental leave, and unlimited sick leave.
