SEEKING EDUCATOR IN CHILDREN'S LEARNING PROGRAM AT KOLOT CHAYEINU

Kolot Chayeinu/Voices of Our Lives is a 30-years-strong, fast-growing, progressive Jewish congregation in Brooklyn, NY with over 400 households. Kolot is a place of inclusive ritual, supportive community, dynamic educational programming, and the relentless pursuit of social justice. Read Kolot’s Mission Statement here.

We are seeking in-person teachers for our 4th, 6th and 7th grade classes in our weekly elementary and middle school programs in our growing Children’s Learning Program for the 2024-25 school year. The elementary program meets on Monday afternoons and the middle school program meets on Thursday afternoons.

We are looking for innovative and creative educators interested in engaging with a diverse community across family structures, genders, religious beliefs, and economic, cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds. We strive to provide learning that enhances and reflects our communal diversity, and seek educators who are likewise committed.

This position requires confidence and familiarity with teaching Jewish holidays, Torah and Hebrew decoding. We have a preference for candidates with prior classroom lead-teaching experience with youth, and the ideal candidate will also have some experience in either community organizing and activism, anti-bias work, arts, arts-education and/or experiential education.

At Kolot Chayeinu, we have developed the core curriculum for each kitah (grade), provide teachers with a week-by-week or monthly "road map" for lessons, and provide supportive materials, activity suggestions, and resources for teachers. We strive for a healthy balance of support and supervision and teachers getting to express and develop their own individual approaches to lessons and activities.

Teachers are also responsible for weekly class updates home to families and weekly updates to the Children’s Learning Program Principal. We provide regular professional development opportunities throughout the year.

The salary for this teaching position is $4,500.

Classes are held in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

If interested, please email your resume, cover letter, and two references to Director of Lifelong Learning Jessica Moore at [email protected] with “Application for CLP Teaching Position” in the subject line.
