JOB DESCRIPTION: Campus Rabbi at Los Angeles Jewish Health
Exciting opportunity to be the Rabbi of one of the most well-established Senior Living Facilities in the country. Once called the Jewish Home for the Aged, then Los Angeles Jewish Home and now Los Angeles Jewish Health, we are a 107 year old organization with 1400 staff that serves 4000 people per year. We are also the second largest Jewish not-for-profit in Southern California.
This job is a full time, 40 hour, Rabbi position on a campus with 500 residents. The Rabbi would report to our Chief Mission Officer, Rabbi Karen Bender, who serves on another campus one mile away. This provides for both independence and mentorship opportunities.
Responsibilities include Shabbat officiation, Holiday planning and leading, teaching, pastoral care, life cycle. This is not a chaplaincy position. It feels more like serving a congregation of people who live where you work. Consider providing for a vibrant and beautiful community of elders, what they might seek Jewishly both at home and at their synagogue. Nonetheless, the hours are reasonable, providing for healthy work/life balance, as nearly all weekdays end at 5:00pm. You will also be part of a supportive and enthusiastic interdisciplinary team of professional staff, which includes support from the Campus’s Executive Director and other clinical, medical and programmatic professionals. The environment fosters teamwork and growth.
While a cantor is brought in for High Holy Days and special occasions, week to week Shabbat is led independently. Musically inclined is a plus but not necessary, as most of the cultivation of the sacred relationships with the community happens outside of synagogue services.
Ample time will be available for study and preparation. Creative opportunities abound and are unbound.
There are three populations on the campus that benefit from Rabbinic services: Two independent living settings and a memory care unit.
This is an amazing Rabbinic position for someone who enjoys honoring seniors, has a sense of humor and a positive countenance.
Salary is $115,000-$140,000, depending upon experience. Our comprehensive benefits package includes Health, Dental, and Vision insurance, a 403(b) Retirement Plan with company matching, and company-paid Life Insurance. Parsonage needs are honored.
Position begins July 1, 2025, however if someone wanted to start earlier they could.
