Director of Operations Overview:

Camp Ramah in Wisconsin’s Director of Operations (DO) is a senior level, full-time, year-round position overseeing the financial and operational strategy and daily functions of the organization. The DO supervises the Operations Team, which currently includes: Facilities Director, Accounting Manager, Operations Associate, Food Services Director and medical staff.  The DO is a key strategic partner to the Executive Director and senior year-round and summer leadership teams in the leadership of Camp Ramah in Wisconsin & Ramah Day Camp.

The DO will guide the organization’s financial and operations functions, including HR, facilities, and IT. Financial strategy and planning includes budgeting, cash management and accounting. Within operations, the DO will oversee operations at both summer camp sites including facilities, travel, commissary, medical and risk management.

This role is suited for an existing high-level professional with business experience, financial acumen and operational know-how. The appropriate candidate will demonstrate a commitment to building the type of year-round and lifelong interpersonal relationships and holistic Jewish community that are fundamental to Camp Ramah in Wisconsin’s work.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Finance
    • Develop and maintain annual operating budget; work with staff to develop and monitor budgets.
    • Oversee financial (general ledger) recording, payroll processing, and record-keeping.
    • Manage cash flow, review and approve all check requests, invoices, and ACH transfers for payment.
    • Partner with camper families on tuition payment plans, financial aid and payment collection.
    • Partner with independent auditors, including preparing financial statements, schedules, and documents requested by auditors in connection with organization’s annual audit.
    • Professional lead for lay Finance Committee and Board of Camp Ramah in Wisconsin Endowment Corporation.
  • Facilities
    • Ensure the safe and ongoing operation at organization facilities, currently: Chicago Office, Ramah Day Camp (Wheeling, IL) and Camp Ramah in Wisconsin (Conover, WI).
    • Negotiate contracts and maintain relationships with facilities vendors.
    • Oversee facility improvement and building projects.
    • Professional lead for lay Facilities Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Camp Operations
    • Lead day-to-day summer operations at Camp Ramah in Wisconsin, including Business Office, transportation, commissary, security and health center.
    • Daily check-ins with operations at Ramah Day Camp, including regular involvement in decision making.
    • Hire and supervise seasonal staff including commissary, maintenance, housekeeping, and health center at both camps.
    • Oversee technology and manage outsourced IT services; implement technology upgrades as needed throughout organization.
    • Responsibility for establishing policies and ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory and accrediting bodies.
    • Professional lead for lay Medical Committee.
  • Human Resources
    • Lead and oversee core HR functions including monitoring legislative changes, processing workers’ compensation claims, and resolving employee conflicts.
    • Maintain, modify, and implement personnel policies and procedures; update employee handbook as needed and ensure staff adheres to employee handbook policies.

 

Ideal Candidates will possess the following skills and background:

  • Significant experience in the operations of an organization
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles
  • Property management / physical plant experience
  • Experience in non-profit or educational and/or camping field
  • Experience in one or more related for-profit fields including consulting, HR, finance, and operations
  • The ability to be a self-starter with strong work ethic and excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills
  • A bachelor’s degree; graduate degree in relevant field preferred
  • At least five years of post-college work experience
  • Knowledge of and willingness to commit to a lifestyle consistent with Conservative Judaism

Job requirements:

  • Regular year-round work on nights and weekends
  • Summer residency of approximately 11 weeks at Ramah’s campus in Conover, WI
  • Regularly scheduled time in off-season office in downtown Chicago and Day Camp in Wheeling
  • Ability to build trusting and lasting relationships with campers, camper parents, staff, professional leaders, Board of Directors, and other partners
  • Living a lifestyle consistent with that of an educational leader of the Conservative Movement
