Brawerman Elementary School of Wilshire Boulevard Temple – Los Angeles Job Description 

Title: Lead General Studies Teacher - Full-Time 

Position Description: 

This is a full-time position as a lead classroom teacher, responsible for developing curriculum, planning and implementing lessons; creating a supportive and intellectual learning environment; and communicating with parents as partners in helping students develop and fulfill their academic and personal potential. This position may be at the East Campus (3663 Wilshire Blvd.) or West Campus (11661 W. Olympic Blvd.). 

About Brawerman: 

Brawerman Elementary School of Wilshire Boulevard Temple is a Reform Jewish day school (Kindergarten to Grade 6) with two campuses. The original West campus was founded in 1999 in a modern facility located in West Los Angeles. The East campus opened in 2011 in the heart of Los Angeles’ Koreatown, adjacent to the historic Wilshire Boulevard Temple sanctuary. We are a tight-knit community with a high level of collaboration among the faculty and an active parent body. We continue to seek creative and passionate educators who enjoy being part of a team and who are committed to professional learning, reflective practice, and innovative pedagogy. 

Responsibilities: 

  • With input and guidance from current faculty and administrators, develop literacy, math, social studies, and other curriculum 
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver instruction that provides purposeful, active, and engaging learning experiences 
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons encouraging collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking 
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons with a focus on social-emotional learning
  • Differentiate instruction as necessary to meet the needs of all students 
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs 
  • Maintain an organized, welcoming classroom environment conducive to student learning 
  • Use technology to support instruction 
  • Use appropriate classroom management strategies so that expectations are clear and students feel comfortable and able to learn 
  • Collaborate with other faculty on schoolwide, including Judaics, curriculum, programming, and events 
  • Show professionalism
  • Grow and develop professionally 

Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of three years experience as a lead teacher (when starting position)
  • A minimum of a college bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree and/or teaching credential is preferred 
  • Relevant teaching experience from independent, public, private, or charter schools 
  • Knowledge of relevant technology 
  • Flexible thinker 
  • Team player 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

Desirable (not required) Qualifications: 

  • Experience using Writer’s Workshop, phonics instruction (Fundations), Developmental Reading Assessment, Math in Focus, Zones of Regulation, and/or Responsive Classroom 
  • Background in Special Education and/or Gifted and Talented Instruction 

Compensation: 

  • $66,150 to $85,000 based on experience and qualifications 
    • Salary is based on employment from mid-August to mid-June, paid over twelve months
