Mikvah Coordinator

Location: AJU Community Mikvah

Hours: 20-25 hours per month

Supervisor: Director of Maas Center

Job Summary

Since 1981, the Community Mikvah at AJU has been vital to Jewish life as the only pluralistic ritual pool in the Pacific Southwest. We welcome Jews of all denominations to come and immerse themselves around large lifecycle moments. Each year the Mikvah hosts over a thousand visitors seeking renewal, healing and a deeper connection to their spirituality. As the region’s hub for Jewish conversion, we welcome hundreds of newcomers to the Jewish faith. We also host group tours and classes for adults and elementary students who come to learn about this profound tradition. We are committed to making this ancient ritual accessible and relevant to all current and converting modern Jews, regardless of their age, affiliation, gender, sexual orientation or background.

The Community Mikvah is seeking a part-time Mikvah Attendant to support the Mikvah Manager. This role involves opening the Mikvah, restocking supplies, setting up for appointments, welcoming guests, and facilitating rituals. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, warm, and has a flexible schedule to accommodate varying appointment times.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Arrive and open the mikvah 30 minutes prior to each appointment; go over closing checklist and lock mikvah at the end of day.
  • Restocking the bathroom, put away laundry, cleaning up before and after each scheduled appointment as needed.
  • Greet and welcome guests, offer tea and/or water.
  • Go over Mikvah intentions prior to immersions.
  • Facilitate rituals while respecting individual needs and traditions.
  • Confirming and scheduling mikvah appointments via email and/or phone as needed.
  • Input guests into security database prior to each appointment.
  • Other tasks as needed.

 

Requirements:

  • Requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a warm, welcoming demeanor.
  • Ability to work independently and a flexible schedule.
  • Knowledgeable, or able to learn, matters of Jewish practice around Mikvah
  • Comfort with facilitating and supporting ritual practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people
Salary20.00 - 22.00 Hour
