About the Position

The Pelham Jewish Center, an Egalitarian Conservative Jewish synagogue in Pelham, NY, is seeking passionate part-time teachers for the 2025-2026 school year. Located just 10 miles north of NYC in Westchester County, our Learning Center serves a vibrant community near New Rochelle and Mount Vernon. Our congregation consists of 120 dedicated members, and our Learning Center enrolls 50 children from pre-K through 7th grade.

We currently have two teaching positions open for Alef (1st grade) and Bet (2nd grade) classes.

Job Description

As a teacher at Pelham Jewish Center, you will be responsible for teaching our Alef (1st grade) or Bet (2nd grade) class twice a week on Tuesdays & Thursdays, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The school year runs from September 9, 2025, to June 1, 2026.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience with Jewish camps and a solid background in experiential learning is highly desirable.

  • A strong foundation in Hebrew, Prayer, Jewish History, and Bible knowledge is essential.



General Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with school administration and faculty to create meaningful, engaging Jewish learning experiences, both in and outside the classroom.

  • Prepare interactive and creative lessons that align with the school’s curriculum.

  • Communicate regularly with families outside of school hours to keep them engaged in their child’s learning.

  • Assist in planning and preparing special programs, including family education and holiday celebrations.

  • Attend professional development sessions to continually grow as an educator.

As a Faculty Member, You Will:

  • Foster a caring and supportive environment where students challenge one another to grow.

  • Inspire both students and their families to engage more deeply in Jewish life.

  • Model thoughtfulness and creativity, nurturing these qualities within the community.

  • Receive mentoring to grow and develop as an educator within a supportive staff of reflective practitioners.

Ideal Candidates will possess:

  • Experience teaching early elementary grades (formal or informal settings).

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Ability to teach Hebrew, Bible, Jewish history, and holidays, incorporating arts, drama, movement, or media.

  • Comfortable working within a Conservative Jewish congregation with a diverse student body.

  • Camp or Youth Group Experience - Those with experience in summer camps or youth group leadership are strongly encouraged to apply!

Compensation:  $8,000/year, commensurate with experience.
