Description

Temple Shir Shalom is looking for a self-motivated non-profit professional to fill the position of Temple Administrator. Candidates should have strong empathetic and communication skills, have a balance of interpersonal and organizational ability, the enthusiasm to work with members celebrating the greatest of life’s joys, and the patience to assist them during times of mourning or poor health.

Why Temple Shir Shalom?

Temple Shir Shalom is an inclusive Reform Jewish congregation located in Gainesville, Florida, home of the University of Florida. Our members and friends engage meaningfully with one another and the broader community through social events, worship, study and social action. From its inception, the congregation has sought to espouse the values of Reform Judaism, focusing on hospitality, inclusion, and Jewish education for all who are interested. In 2025, Shir Shalom will celebrate its 40th anniversary. In that time, it has grown from an idea shared by just a few local families in early 1984 to a current membership of 135 families. Regular worship consists primarily of Friday night Shabbat services, with occasional Saturday morning services, and an active religious school on Sunday mornings.

Local Context

Gainesville, a large southern university town, offers residents and visitors world-class museums, performing arts, and live music as well as scenic natural areas for biking, birding, and hiking. North Central Florida is also home to unique crystal-blue freshwater springs. There are many local breweries, bookstores, restaurants and it's just a short drive to both Atlantic and Gulf beaches and theme parks in Orlando.

Judaism in this area goes back to 1821, when Moses E. Levy established a utopian agrarian settlement a few miles south of Gainesville. His vision was to create a safe haven for Jewish immigrants to the new world. Similarly, today, Shir Shalom strives to be a safe haven from anti-semitism and hatred through security and social action.

The temple collaborates with many local jewish community institutions, including the following organizations: Jewish Council of North Central Florida (Federation), Isser and Rae Price Library of Judaica, The Bud Shorstein Center for Jewish Studies, University of Florida Hillel, Lubavitch Jewish Center at UF, and Congregation B’nai Israel.
