4th-5th Grade Hebrew School Teacher 2024-2025

 

Temple Israel is a Conservative synagogue located in Ridgewood, NJ. We are located in Bergen County. We are hiring one teacher to teach students in 4th-5th grades for the 2024-2025 school year. Our innovative and immersive Hebrew School is committed to Jewish learning that is relevant, meaningful and creative. Our educational philosophy focuses on living Judaism through experience!

 

Job Description:

  • Collaborate with school administration and other faculty members to create innovative and meaningful Jewish learning experiences, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Prepare creative, interactive lessons and create lesson plans.
  • Regularly communicate with families outside of school hours.
  • Assist in the planning and preparation of special programs, including family education and holiday celebrations.
  • Contribute to the weekly Hebrew School email newsletter.
  • Manage student progress with report cards, progress reports, Parent-Teacher Conferences
  • Handle office tasks for own classroom

 

Attend professional development sessions for faculty outside of school hours. As a member of our faculty, you will:

  • Provide a sense of caring and concern that enables our students to support one another and challenge them to grow as individuals.
  • Inspire students and their families to actively engage in Jewish life. 
  • Model the thoughtfulness and creativity that we seek to promote in our community.
  • Receive mentoring to grow as an educator as part of a staff of reflective practitioners.
  • Demonstrate consistent involvement with classroom and events

 

Ideal candidates have the following qualifications:

  • Experience teaching students in Early elementary grades in a formal or informal setting.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to teach Hebrew, Bible, Jewish values/history and holidays incorporating arts, drama, movement or media.
  • Will commit to teaching Sunday mornings; be present at Family Shabbat, Junior Congregation and county-wide programs






Schedule

Approximately 4-7 hrs/week (25 hrs/month) of in-person teaching & management

Sunday Morning Class 1x/week Total: 3 hrs per class (9:00 AM-12:00 PM)

Wednesday Afternoon Class 1x/week Total: 2 hrs per class (4:00-6:00 PM)

Shabbat School 1x/month: 3 hours per Saturday morning

 

Compensation: $50/hr estimated $7150 for the year
