Position Overview:
The Member Engagement and Development Associate will play a key role in supporting Chizuk Amuno Congregation and Schools and Krieger Schechter Day School through development operations, event facilitation, donor engagement, communications, and grant management. This individual will be a critical thinker, a proactive self-starter, and a strong leader, who is ready to take initiative while also embracing opportunities to learn and grow in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

The Member Engagement and Development Associate will work directly with the Director of Development to ensure the success of key initiatives, engage with current and potential members, and help strengthen relationships with donors, volunteers, and community members.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Event Management and Donor Engagement:

  • Collaborate with the Director of Development to implement targeted engagement strategies for various constituencies across the institution, including managing correspondence, committee meetings, and donor cultivation.
  • Oversee event logistics for institutional fundraising efforts and work with volunteer leadership to ensure successful execution.
  • Manage and ensure the smooth implementation of large-scale community events, committee meetings, and donor-funded initiatives. This includes maintaining timelines, addressing challenges, and providing regular updates to stakeholders.
  • Actively participate in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting donors to support the organization’s mission and programs.

Development Operations:

  • Provide key administrative support to the development team, ensuring smooth operations and the efficient flow of information.
  • Develop and track progress on annual appeals, identifying trends and adjusting campaigns as needed.
  • Maintain the integrity of donor data through effective tracking, reporting, and innovative improvements to donor management systems.
  • Work closely with the CFO and finance team to process and manage donations, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
  • Support the development of acknowledgment letters, pledge forms, and gift agreements, ensuring timely responses to all donors.

Membership Engagement and Retention:

  • Design and implement strategies to recruit new members while ensuring high levels of engagement and retention for existing members.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for member inquiries, ensuring a positive and welcoming experience.
  • Work with the marketing team to develop and send regular communications to members, keeping them informed about programs, services, and events.
  • Maintain and update the membership database, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Foster meaningful relationships among members to cultivate a strong sense of community and belonging within the congregation.

Communications and Grant Management:

  • Contribute to the strategic planning and execution of development and communications efforts, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
  • Collaborate on the creation and curation of the Annual Report.
  • Prepare grant proposals and applications, including follow-up reports to foundations, ensuring adherence to deadlines and compliance with funding requirements.
  • Lead the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies, maintaining strong relationships with current and prospective funders.

Qualifications:

  • A proactive, self-motivated individual with strong leadership capabilities and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Critical thinking, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative, while also being a strong team player.
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate messages clearly to a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Event planning experience with the ability to manage logistics, timelines, and stakeholder communication.
  • Development experience preferred, including knowledge of donor and/or customer relationship management systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and experience with donor databases (e.g., ShulCloud is a plus).
  • Experience with social media strategy and communications is a plus.
  • Previous work with non-profits and volunteer management is desirable.

Additional Information:

  • Salary: $60,000 - $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
  • Incentive Plan: This position is eligible for a performance-based incentive plan. A bonus structure will be developed in partnership with the Director of Development, based on quantitative goals tied to membership retention, annual campaign growth, and other measurable objectives.
  • Position Type: Full-Time Exempt
  • Hours: Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.; occasional evenings and weekends required.
  • Location: In-person role based in Baltimore, MD.
